I'd also add that if you buy a big tow new form the factory, it's under warranty, instead of testing stuff to see what works or whatnot, i'd say it's a safer bet to just buy it ready to go, that's what i'm looking for. I could of already bought a few brand new chevy's (which i'm a fan of honestly) but it would of been out of the warranty for me to get it ready to tow, so if the tranny or something blew, i would of been screwed, i think that's really the selling factor, at least for myself, and as far as mirrors go, so far i've heard you can get the 04's i think XE's with the normal mirors ! anyhow, it's a good vlaue pack for someone like myself, who's towing a 21' race car trailer to California and back to Washington a bunch!
and if it breaks, i can take ti right back to where i bought it and get ugly with them over it!
i agree, if your not looking to tow then, yeah don't get that package, but i think it's a good setup to tow with. that's just my 2cents....
^^^ Plus if for instance someone like me dont really have the extra cash to buy all the towing stuff later, it's not a bad option just to get the package from the dealer and have it financed... IMO can't have it all your way sometimes

well the mirrors are understandable if you got a huge 5th wheel or something large...as far as the gears..if your gonna throw in money towards the BT package, or upgrading your gearing yourself..you can upgrade your gearing to even better. get it? sure BT package is good, but you can get aftermarket stuff and have better...for cheaper..its just not Nissan.
Sorry, there is no way you're going to install aftermarket gears for $450 installed, especially if you have 4x4.
For what you get (Hitch, wiring, gears, mirrors you don't like, trans temp gauge), $450 (MSRP! Costs you less if you pay invoice) is a STEAL. 3.36 gears don't look all that great on paper, but paired with the trans ratios the overall ratio is a lot lower than virtually any truck out there with an auto and 4.10s. As I said earlier in this thread, the Titan with 3.36 gears would be like a Tundra with 4.56 gears.
You have to look at the trans ratios and axle ratios to get the big picture, axle ratio alone doesn't give enough info.
Not to mention resale value. I've heard a lot of people say the first question they've been asked when selling is if it has the tow package.

For the Titan: Prove It!
Change gears and then what will you do with the ECU Programed for the OE Ratio? Don't like the big mirrors (I found them odd on my test drive), then buy the XE as I did. I only borrow a flatbed trailer about 1 or 2 times a year, so this is the perfect setup for me.
Once again, Prove it! I won't be checking back, Im so sure it can't be done commercially better for less. What did I say I paid, oh yeah, 250 bucks before discount.....
Don't take it wrong onehundredk, but I honestly think you can not do it . I don't want newbeis thinking they can and go order a Titan without BT, then find they wasted 25-35K because of such bad advise.

I think you need to keep your stories straight. First it's "It's a waste of money for people, you can get aftermarket better for cheaper." and now it's "I can get better for cheaper."
How can someone that's NOT you get it for cheaper? They can't. That's the point. Stop filling people's heads with misinformation when it comes to aftermarket parts and pricing.

no ive always said you can get better products if you go with aftermarket..no neccesarlly cheaper, but if you look at it from the optimal...would you wanna spend money on the BT package, and then money ontop of that for even better...youd save ALOT of money just going out and getting the best your first purchase...for me when i get it cheaper..when im told a price i dont kno if thats for me or for everyone...unless i say is that steves hook up price...or the price for joe shmo...the CAI, Coated headers and full catback, if your still curious...and not only that, any average person who dont know the owner of a company can go in, be polite, buy large amount of product and save big bucks. go try it some time

Suggest reading this thread if you haven't already...
yah, seeing that nissan is the only one that i know of usin a dana 44 in a modern vheicle, i dont think u can find it. and also, i think that stock company is better when it comes to big tow. you can trust it more better knowing its added for that truck, and that truck only, plus due to warrenty. and also, y would u want to aftermarket a severly out-dated rear anyway? when u can drop a bran new detroit into it, or a arb air?

The Dana44 is a very common axle with a lot of aftermarket parts.
The problem is that the Dana44 in the Titan has proprietary changes and standard Dana44 parts will not work with it.

I only read that twice, and you still didn't make sense...
This is a Big Tow thread, you said it was a waste "of grip" to purchase the factory B/T package, citing that you could put togather a equivelent package for less money, and even get better parts.
You've had several replies, and still haven't told me how to get a lower set of gears for towing, you also stated you could get a better hitch(you haven't shared what hitch that would be yet...)and we haven't got to the clean factory trans temp gauge yet.
I'm expecting your next reply to explain the above, not any other parts, just the ones you bagged on...
