Re: hot transmision ??????

If you are towing in 4th gear with the tow button on, the gauge shouldn't move very much. Using 5th (overdrive) to tow will shoot the trans temperature up quickly. I have an aftermarket gauge on mine, pulling a 4,000 pound boat and all of our gear (~5,500 lb total) it rises around 10 degrees and stays there, even in 100 summer temperatures.

My Titan is identical to yours and I tow a WW FS2500 (27 feet long). Going up some of the mountain passes in Canada where I live, the trans temp guage has gone close to the max. My last trip was to Utah and when returning we hit snow and the trailer picked up a massive amount of snow/ice and despite cold temperatures, the trans temp went higher than in the middle of summer. We were driving about 20 mph because of the bad roads and the my guess is the air flow wasn't sufficient to cool things off. If you pull over and let it idle for a few minutes, the temp drops pretty quickly.

Re: hot transmision ??????

The only time I have had a problem with transmission temp I was towing an open 2 place snowmobile trailer up a steep grade in deep snow in a higher gear than I should have about 35mph. Once I shifted down down and brought the engine rpm's up the temp dropped. I'm sure it had to do with the load on the transmission but think it may have been the cold temperature and decreased cooling at lower rpm's.

29ft, 7500lbs TT with no real movement of the temp needle from normal driving. I tow with tow mode on and in 4th gear.

Re: hot transmision ??????

I did experience this while towing a 5000lb TT going up a long grade, 4th gear, 50-55mph. The cure? Shift into 3rd, the trans temp dropped back down to normal VERY quickly.

Re: hot transmision ??????

The only time I have ever had my guages get hot is when I towed this...
Big New Holland Tractor, 20 ft trailer, 2 1000+lbs plows, and bucket (500 or so) with a total of around 12500 pounds of total weight. Had to go about 50 miles up and down hills. The Titan did it with ease but I probably should not of done this when I only had about 3000 miles on it. Oh well.. No breakdowns yet and Im at 9000 miles now..
