Brake controller mounting

Ok, I'm picking up our travel trailer this coming weekend. The RV dealer is installing the controller, hitch etc, I have hooked up the Nissan furnished controller cable under the dash that will be terminated to the controller. I am getting a Prodigy controller. But, I can't figure out where to mount it. Any suggestions or photos of what you have done?

Thanks

Re: Brake controller mounting

I mounted mine on the right had side of the dash, kind of underneath. It's angled upwards. It'd be sort of right next to the ODBII port. Right in front of my right knee. I could go take a pic if you'd like.

Edit: Here's a pic.

Me 3. Just seemed like the most nature place for this considering you'll want to be able to access the controller while driving.

Re: Brake controller mounting

I couldn't put mine there... my legs are too long and my knee hit it. Mine is on the left just above the parking brake and it works pretty well. Every once in awhile I bump it getting in/out but I didn't have any other choice.

Re: Brake controller mounting

Thanks everyone. I have the same knee issue as mtofell, but I'm going to try it there and hope it doesn't get to much in the way.

Re: Brake controller mounting

About the same as Carbeaux but to the left 3 to 4 inches. This not only places the controller out of the way of the OBD II port, but it is out of the way of my right leg and the nice feature is I can see the Prodigy's readout through the steering wheel when I glance down. Mine is mounted to an angled piece I cut that is bolted to the steel part of the lower dash.

Honestly, I was sure this was going to be in the way, but I decided I would live with it because it was the easiest place to mount it and I did not have a lot of time to get prepared for my first tow, so there it went. I was sure after the first tow I would have to move it someplace else, but guesss what, I have never moved it because I have never even bumped into it, although I was sure it would be in the way.

Re: Brake controller mounting

I hit mine with a knee at first. Just powered back the seat and pedals and haven't hit it since then. It doesn't block the OBDII port on mine. The dealer has hooked into that several times since I installed the prodigy.

Post up some pics of the new rig after you get it.

Re: Brake controller mounting

Mine looks just like carbeaux's now. The person at the RV shop mounted it level and it really stock out to far. So I re-mounted like the pic. Used the slide in pockect holder though.

Thanks. Photo coming

Mine too is mounted in the pocket. It made it pretty simple.

Re: Brake controller mounting

Does Nissan have a plug that connects the brake signal, power, brake pedal, and ground. My fathers GMC had a plug that connected to a Prodigy controller.

Yep, there is one tucked away under the dash, If you have the Tow Package.
