Transmission Cooler - How to add one

Just bought a new 2008.5 Nissan Titan SE 4x4 Short box. I am adding a receiver hitch and will be towing a boat (16 foot) and maybe a camper trailer later. I want to add a transmission cooler but most of the mechanics around here seem a bit reluctant to say whether or not they can install one. Including the Nissan dealer service department.

The truck has a transmission temp gauge, but does not have the tow package which claims to add a transmission cooler.

What do you suggest? With the right kind of cooler and instructions specific to the Titan I think I can find someone to install it. Myself, I change oil and run it through the car wash. That's about it!

Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Transmission Cooler - How to add one

All Titans have a transmission cooler even w/o the tow pkg ... I just posted a couple of days ago on what is included in an 2008.5 tow pkg, and the cooler was not listed, which seems to back this up, (unless it has been eliminated completely for the newer Titans).
Here a link to my post, http://www.titantalk.com/forums/1194507-post23.html
Most 16 foot boats are pretty light, and as long as you down shift if the transmission gauge shows it's warming up ... no problem

Re: Transmission Cooler - How to add one

The Titan actually has 2 Transmission coolers IIRC. So, you should not need to add anything.

Do you have the Off Road Pkg? That would give you the lower gearing, same as Tow Pkg does.

Re: Transmission Cooler - How to add one

Yes all Titan have 2 coolers already. It's not gonna hurt to add another one but not necessary IMO.

Thanks! I copied you information and images and have them saved on my laptop. As soon as I find a good mechanic I'll get it done.
