So I'm going to buy a brake controller today. Can't decide which one to buy. I like the look of the P3 better than the Prodigy, but either would suit my needs. Any reason to get one over the other?
Not familiar with the p,3. I had a prodigy and it's awesome. You wont have any problems with it, and it can be mounted in any position.

Prodigy. One time set and forget. Very easy to set up and use. Works great with my 8,000-9,000 equipment trailer.

Thanks guys!
The prodigy byfar will be the best investment in safety you will ever make.
No more second guessing or manual applying the brakes on down hills.
Bottom line it works.

I believe Prodigy P3 is the latest model they have out. Heard it's suppose to be alot better than the 2nd gen but I have not tested or know anyone who has it. I'm just going to go ahead and order one next week LOL.

i dont have the bt opt if i put on a class 4 hitch would i be able to tow about the same amount? becausee the only other difference is the equiv 4.10 gears vs 3.73 and in othe makes it doesn't make a difference well in my silverado it didn't
P3 is the new product from the folks that make Prodigy. It appears to be a Prodigy with an LED display.
Since the Prodigy (at least mine) is a set and forget type thing, I don't think I would pay the extra money unless I was moving it from truck to truck or was towing several different trailers of greatly different weights where I would be needing to reset its "boost" frequently.

Plan on $100-$150 for the controller. Another $15-20 dollars for the custom wiring plug. You need Big Tow (looks like you have it from your signature), or you have to install some relays and other stuff.
How much trailer are we talking about? How many axles? What weight? If you aren't towing much (small boat, etc.) you might not need trailer brakes. Anything over 2,000-2,500 and brakes are a good bet and much above that are an absolute necessity.

The P3 is the newest model to replace the prodigy since it was bought out and features a nicer interface, but built by the same company -- so it should be as good as the prodigy. I read it was $150 with a $20 rebate. So for $130, just get the P3 ... its the same prodigy with a supposedly better color interface. I have latest version of the prodigy and really it's just as a simple as 'set and forget'. It works great, even on some seriously steep mountain roads towing an RV.
well either a 19ft tt with 2 axles or anywhere from a 24 to 31 ft tt ..depending on what i get
Brake controller will be a must. Absolutely.

Just picked up the Prodigy yesterday from the Camping World store for $119 after buying their membership for $12. The harness was $15. After taking the 15 mins (including drilling the holes for the bracket, looking up the factory brake controller plug on this board, and getting it all mounted) for the install, I must say this thing rocks. The braking is sooooo smooth compared to my Brakeman Digital. Setup was a breeze. The idle display is a bit archaic but as long as I am stopping I don't mind.
Matt
P.S. Just bought my Titan this past Saturday and already LOVE the thing. Had 2000 lbs of bag mix concrete in the back today and had power to spare. Prob could have used a little help in the springs and tires department but no fatalities. Not use to this kind of capabilities as I am coming from a '95 Tacoma V6.
