I towed for my first longer trip, it was 200 miles each way. I was towing about 4000 pounds give or take a little and had crusie control set on 70 with it in 4th running about 2300 or 2400 rpms. I had the aerodynamics of a brick with this setup. I had it in 5th for a little bit but felt much better in 4th so thats where I left It.

What were you carrying in the bed and the trailer?
My friend has a dump trailer I borrow every once and awhile. They are indispensable when it comes to hauling gravel or dirt. He even hauls cement in it.

Its 1.5" 4 x 10 rigid insulation. It doesn't weight too much but the trailer itself is around 3000 pounds and with the insulation and all the other gear I had I was somewhere around 4000 i'd say. Ever since I got the trailer I don't know how I got along without it.

I towed 9000 pounds for aprox 1600 miles both ways and only got between 4 and 7 miles per gallon the trailer is pretty tall since its a toyhauler and the rear diff went out on the way home i hope the new style rear with the finned cover will last longer i only have 29k on my 04

I've gotten almost as low as the 4 that's mention, and probably never over 12 when towing the trailer in my sig. That seems to be about the norm with the truck hooked up.

I can get 8-9 mpg towing my 3500 lb enclosed trailer if I keep it between 55-60 mph. I push it up to 70+ and I start getting around 6 mpg according to my scangauge.
After reading your posts, I felt relieved. I towed my boat with my titan which weighs approx 7500 loaded and getting 6 to 8 mpg. This is within speed limit downwind, upwind what have you. I traded my titan in for an armada and got the same results for mpg. JUST SUCK IT UP !!!!!!

Don't feel bad titanmike. With this load (pulled 175 miles, over 100 miles into 25 mph head wind), got a tad under 5 mpg. Estimated weight with 95 HP tractor, 10" solid deck shredder and trailer = 10,500 lbs!

10mpg is what I was getting on my truck with the lift and 35"s on it. 17mpg so far on my new Armada
In both my Titan and my Armada, I have never gotten over 14 mpg. Empty or not, I still get under 14. Normal driving with my Titan(big tow and off road) I get 11 to 12. With the Armada SE (big tow and 4X4) I happy to get 14 mpg. How are you guys doing it?
I see those numbers above 13 and wonder what I am doing wrong. I only got above 13 mpg on one trip and that was a straight shot to Vegas with no load. Average is 13 like clock work each fill up.
Towing, I get anywhere from 6-9 depending on the wind.
I wish there was a bolt on mod to get an extra 5-10mpg!

Just returned from our annual fishing trip. I was towing a 19.5' Stratos bass boat with supplies to last a week camping for 3. The truck got 14 miles a gallon.
