Re: Uhaul class III or IV? Safe?

I had the dealer order and put mine on as part of the deal when I bought it. I could have saved some money if I'd just ordered the Nissan hitch kit and installed it myself. The Nissan receiver hitch is expensive and heavy because it's solid steel. If you don't have to pull anything that requires that just go to Wal-Mart and get a Reese brand receiver hitch and lock kit for about $20 and get the ball to go with it. I believe it's rated for 5000lbs. with a 2" ball installed.

Speaking of torque wrenches. I just bought a Stanley torque wrench (20-100ft/lbs) for $19 at Big Lots.

I hear ya. Mine is craftsman, but I use mine on a semi regular basis for things needing 130+ lbs of torque (like the rear axle on my motorcycle).

I still propose that someone who simply needed a cheapo torque wrench for a job like this could do just fine with a Wal Mart dealio.

I traded a 05 titan for a 07 and I swapped the hitch myself needless to say they did'nt tell me i needed the relays now im stuck to either buy relays from them or somebody else that doesn't make much sense.

Re: Uhaul class III or IV? Safe?

So you had an 05 w/ a hitch on it, and when you traded the truck for the 07, you just pulled the hitch off of it to put on the new truck, but forgot about your relays?

Or does the 07 need additional relays that the 05 didn't?

Either way, aren't relays like $30? It's annoying, but it's liveable.

05 only uses 2 relays 07 uses 3 or 4 can't remember exactly

This kit has the 3 relays and 7 pin/4 pin plug for $45, it is what I use, works great. May be cheaper than buying just the relays elsewhere even if you don't need the harness.

Re: Uhaul class III or IV? Safe?

Just ordered the whole kit-and-kaboodle including the wiring kit with relays from Etrailer. 99 cents shipping and no tax.

I do not shop at Uhaul, even though their facility is convenient. Worst service at the local establishment than any business which which I've ever dealt.

Reserved a trailer for an equipment pick-up; even paid in advance with credit card. On the morning of the pick up date, I went to UHaul to get the reserved trailer to meet the cargo and Uhaul said, "Sorry, it was leased out to someone else yesterday.".

They put me in a terrible bind with my customers waiting on their equipment from me and from the shipper with my cargo waiting on a dock for me to pick up. Cost me a lot of money and disrupted my business.

That was 15 years ago and I've never been back. Others have had the same type of experiences. I warn everyone of UHaul's poor business practices and poor customer service. (like I'm doing here, now)

No way, it's uber cool. I say you get a big "POWERED BY UHAUL!" sticker all the way down the side of the truck. UHaul

Re: Uhaul class III or IV? Safe?

I just bought the factory hitch from a dealer on ebay. I have all relays and parts, but no instructions. What are the factory specs for torquing down the bolts? Also does the head of the bolt sit on the top or bottom of the frame? I haven't looked too hard at it, but it seems easy enough, just have to clarify some things since I never got instructions.

just take the 6 bolts and you will see where they go in the frame. TQ them to about 80ft/lbs and you will be fine. Bolt head goes on bottom of frame (from ground up) ie bolt through hitch into frame.
