Newbie to towing
I just got a Haulmark 24' Trailer. I am hauling a H-D Trike with a trailer attatched behind it on a gooseneck. I guesstimate the total weight of all three at about 5000 lbs. or so. This rig is for rent so where I travel will be varied as to the type of roads.
In reading other posts, everyone talks of driving a load like this in 4th gear. Is this using the "manual" part of the transmission instead of the automatic transmission? Also, is there anything else I need to be aware of in towing something this big. (I am having a trailer brake put on my truck today.) John |

Yes. 4th is the manual part.
Take the rig for a short test tow to get a feel for it, and get those brakes dialed in. You will be heavy. Keep the travel speeds down knowing that if you have to shut her down you can do it safely.
