Where can I get the best deal on a Equalizer brand Weight Distribution hitch? I am looking for the 10,000 lbs. version. Thanks Guys.

Re: Best Deal On Equalizer Hitch

The last time I looked it was RvWholesalers.com (because of the free shipping), they had the best deal on the Podigy brake controller as well:

Re: Best Deal On Equalizer Hitch

thclimer,

That is the cheapest I have found also. Did you have to have a special socket to install the hitch? Speaking to Equalizer a few months ago it seems I remember them saying something about that. Thanks for the response.

If you get a ball that has at least 2 flat spots on it you can tighten it down with a big pipe wrench or adjustable wrench. You can rent those tools, since you only need them once.

I had to borrow a large enough socket from friend; I think that’s the only time I’ll ever need one that big. I know RvWholesalers also sells balls so I would get the ball from them also and work into the deal that they install the ball for you for free.

RV Wholesalers never even sees your hitch, so I don't think they can attach your ball.

Oooops didn't realize that. Maybe you could then purchase the ball from a local RV/hitch retailer and ask them to install it, or find a friend with a socket like I did.

What is special about the socket? Is it just a very large socket?

If I remember correctly it needs to be a deep socket, maybe even with a thin wall, I think the issue was more with the depth.

Re: Best Deal On Equalizer Hitch

Ya, it needs to be a thinwall deep socket. I ordered mine from rvwholesalers and just took into a shop that does work on my vehicles and they attached the ball for me. I ordered the equalizer brand ball also and it recommended torqueing it to 430 ft lbs, so you'd need some serious tools to do that.

Re: Best Deal On Equalizer Hitch

I got mine off ebay because I didn't realize rvwholesalers was free shipping. d'oh!

When I got it all hooked up I realized the standard shank didn't go low enough to level out my car hauler so the trailer was angled up a bit and the back end of my truck sagged enough to make it level.

I've since ordered the 9" maximum drop shank for $100 because I need to drop 8" to make the trailer level.

The place I bought my trailer installed the ball for me for free.

Re: Best Deal On Equalizer Hitch

It seems most people like to go w/ the Equalizer hitch since it doesn't use chains, huh? There's a Curt WD hitch on ebay for about $240 shipped that I'm lookin' into getting but they use chains. Should I spend the extra $160 for the Equalizer?

Does that include a sway control bar? Those are 50 - 75 ea. and to be even close to a Equal-I-Zer you would need 2 of them.

So the answer is yes... The Equal-I-Zer is worth the extra cost.

Yeah, it includes a friction sway bar plus a hitch lock. I have a thread in this forum section that says "WD hitch deal on ebay". You can check out the ebay link in that thread.
