I have a 2007 LE with the off road package. How much drop should I get on the ball mount for most trailers? I have everything stock, tires, rims no lift etc. I do not plan on towing any specific trailer, I just want a general purpose hitch. I have the class 4 Nissan oem hitch. thanks.
It depends on the height of the trailors...one of mine uses a 4in drop and another uses a 2 in drop...I would try a 4in.

My Horse trailer is a 2 inch drop and my Wells Cargo 14ft enclosed trailer (for dirt bikes) is a 4 inch drop. Don't forget that some things you will tow have different Ball sizes....the most common is 2 5/16, the next is 2" ball.
If money is an issue stick with a 2-4 inch drop...I would go 2.....better a little high then too low IMO.......If money is not a primary factor, go with an adjustable hitch......a lot of adjustable hitches have both ball sizes too, you just turn it over.

I have the exact same question, don't tow much but I will need to next month, just a regular old Uhaul trailer, I was looking at a 2 3/4 drop and 2 inch ball.... I'm a complete towing novice, anybody see any issues with this ?

Your basic run of the mill mount is 2". This should be fine for most small utility trailers.

You're going from the wrong direction...Most trailers have a ball height of 18" so see what you need to get there....
But If I had to guess, I'd say about a 3" drop...

if your towing a uhaul trailer they sit low so youll need a bigger drop, like a 4-6inch drop. i have an 8 inch on mine cause i have a 8" lift but i need a longer drop

That will work fine, thats what i used before i lifted my truck. The trailer will ride a little high but you will get by. If you can find something a little lower like a 3.5 it would be about perfect. I think the next size down is a 4" that is going to be a little too much imo. So i would just get the 2 3/4.

I have a 4" drop now to level my camper with my stock 18" tires. My Pilot has 16" tires and has a 2" drop.
You could get one of those adjustable height ball mount where you can raise and lower as you desire. It a little more but offers quite a bit of flexibility.
