2005 LE w/OR - tow capacity?

I've searched the forum and could not find an answer for this one.

I have a 2005 CC LE with the OR package but without the BT. I was told by one dealer that I just need to add a Class IV hitch and I will be rated for 9200lbs tow cap, and that the truck was pre-wired for the brake controller.

Another told me that the only way to get the full tow cap was with the BT factory installed. If I add a hitch I will only be rated at 7200lbs.

It does have the TOW MODE button but I think that only changes shift points

Who is right?

Thanks

If it is the true OR package then it would be 9200 pounds, as you would have the lower gearing. Does yours have the switch for electronic diff lock? All titans are prewired for brake controller, LE/SE had the dongle to attach the brake contrioller. XE had to splice.

Re: 2005 LE w/OR - tow capacity?

My 04' manual has the LE CC at 2 different tow ratings:

Non B/T - Towing capacity 7200 lbs
GCVW - 13,000 lbs

B/T - T/capacity 9200 lbs
GCVW - 14,800 lbs

With the right tires the O/R package has the same gear ratio as the B/T and the same cooling package...SO you should be able to tow as a B/T rated truck..

I highly recommend the factory hitch kit, it comes with the correct factory rated hitch, the bolts and relays for the trailer lights.

It didn't change for '05..

I second the Factory Hitch recomendation by Loufish.

And yes, if you plan to tow a heavy trailer, upgrade to LT tires.
