Re: Extremely Disappointed!!

You've got a low geared truck designed to have a lot of torque down low. Do you know how you get torque down low...FUEL!!!

Your crying about 18mpg on the freeway in a 5,000 plus lb 5.6l truck!!!

It's not a diesel......towing brings down the fuel economy big time......

And pulling 6k with a Chevy and getting 15 mpg.....I don't buy one cent of that story!!!

Re: Extremely Disappointed!!

I had a 2000 silverado RC-LB 2wd with a 4.3L V-6 and could only get 17-18, maybe 20mpg if i drove under 55-60 and like i was scared to death.....

Buy a chebby and leave !!!!!!!

Nice try, but that site just gives the epa ratings and we all now how full of crap the epa ratings are. I am talking about the real world reports of fuel economy. I will look up a few.

I'm not crying about the 18 mpg Hwy, I fully expect that, but I didn't expect the mpg to drop that much with a 3000lbs load. I thought that was the point of these low gears and torque. I think the Titan is a great looking truck, with plenty of power and performance. I haven't had a complaint up until now. You can believe what you will about my past experience with my Chevy. I'm not saying that Chevrolet is a better truck, it just seems like it fits my needs better. I'm not a die hard fan of any brand, I've owned every truck but a Toyota. I do like my Titan, and I'm not here to bash it, I was just surprised by the drop in mpg.

this isnt a little 5.3...little power takes little fuel...big power takes big fuel....
and lol if you think that a 5.3 chevy tows better than a titan....well you better go back to your cute little chebby tow master shwagon.....happy holidays

I guess it all depends on your definition of “tows better”. Do I think a Titan could out accelerate a Chevy with the same load, Yes, but I don’t think it maintains constant speed any better. I don’t care if I can get to 70 mph fast, I care if I can pull at 70 without excessive down shifting and the range I get from a tank of gas.

The 4X4 is rated at that, the 2wd is rated at 15/19. These are still only averages. Some are higher, some are lower, I guess mine was at the top end.

The 08 longbed titans have the 37 gallon tank, that would have given you the range you were looking for. My truck doesn't downshift much at all, I can't imagine it downshifting more than the chevy. Did you have it in 4th, or 5th when pulling the trailer?

5th, it didn't downshift much, only on inclines. I didn't experience alot of downshifting from either, that's why I say they maintain speed about the same. And by range I mean mpg also.

37 X 15 mpg - 555 miles
37 X 11 mpg - 407 miles

I know 138 miles isn't alot, but that's 2 extra hours of driving and not to mention 1 stop for gas instead of 2 on my particular 900 mile trip.

Hell I have a hard time driving 3 hours without stopping. I am sorry, I just do see a 5.3 getting 4mpg better towing the same load. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Re: Extremely Disappointed!!

your 5th gear is an over drive... i dont think anyone would recommend pulling in anything above 4th(especially 3000 lbs)...that will eliminate you downshifting problems...
