Re: Extremely Disappointed!!

My understanding (fwiw,) from Nissan literature; the BT package, with the 3:36 gearing compares to the 4:10 in terms of final drive ratio, or actual end results where the rubber meets the road.
If that's true then the only "apples to apples" comparison would be the 5.7 Chevy, (die chebby die,) or the 6.0 HD with the 4:10 rear. I had an 04 HD with 6.0/4:10 drivetrain, and it rated comparable torque @ 405 ft lbs. (does Chevy make a 5.3 with 4:10? I think they may still make a WT 5.7 with 4:10?)
Anyway, forget MPG....that beyatch about killed me. I drove from Murfreesboro to Bowling Green every day for 4 months (big job,) at $75 per day in gas. Towing, or anything above 60mph got me like 8mpg. Towing an 8 Series Skid Loader got me like 4. Otherwise a good truck, towed like a champ, but the 1/2 ton Chevy I got next was a total worthless POS canadian/mexican POS *&$%# POS die chebby die. but I digress....
I get 12.7 empty babying the throttle around town and interstate both. (set cruise at 65 from cookeville to nashville.) I just turn off that annoying mpg thing, pretend like it gets alot more than it does and write it off at year's end. And I hug trees and pet kitties a lot to clear my conscience.

i agree i helped my friend move from phoenix az to las vegas nv and th had an03 gmc sierra w/ a 5.3 we were towing a 1998 nissan sentra an a 14 ft flat bed trailer and his trucks tranny was all over the place...

there is now dbout in my mind that a 5.3 w/ a 4 speed will get better milage, but 4mpg better than a titan w 5 speed towing 3000 lbs seems a little far out... either way good luck on your trucks no matter what you go w/

No, I have two Jeeps

89 Jeep Cherokee 6in lift, 32in super swampers
84 Jeep CJ7 4in lift, 33in BFG Mud Terrains

I take these to Colorado and other areas to offroad. I need a truck that can pull around 6000lbs (Jeep and trailer), a good load for a gas motor, but not enough to demand a diesel. The Titan pulls great, but it wasn't so astounding that I could over look 11mpg pulling 2 fourwheelers.

FYI, Lil Timmy is a nick name given to me by my older sister. I'm 6'1 260lbs. I'd look a little odd in a mid size truck.

an you have to think... an enclosed trailer is not shaped like a rocket..its more like a block wall... there is lots of wind resistance

I just drove 15 solid hours. I only stop for gas: eat, drink, use the restroom while the tank is getting filled and go. Everyone has their own opinion on trucks, that's why there are 5 big companies making them (I don't count the Honda Ridgeline or the Mitsu Raider). Am I so pissed that I'm going to go out and trade it today, no. I'll keep this truck for a year or two, get it paid down and buy something else. Might even get a diesel next time and if I do, it'll be a Dodge (think the Cummins is the best diesel motor, crap transmissions though) I'm not stuck on any one brand of truck (I think it's funny that some people still argue that a GMC is better than a Chevy or visa versa). I just want a truck that fits my needs the best.

I don't think anyone will argue with this statement. Sure wish you could get a cummins in a chevy, or ford, or even better a titan.

Is Nissan trying to pick up Navistar (power stroke)? Seems like Ford has been having a bunch of problems with their new motors. I'd think they try to find another motor if they were trying to put a diesel in a Titan

I don't know if they still have any plans on a diesel. I don't plan on buying another truck for many years, but if they put a cummins in the titan I would be standing in line when they opened the doors.

I'm sorry bbomar, did I hurt your feelings by not saying that the Titan was the biggest and best at everything. You don't have to respond, hell you don't even have to read this tread if you're so put out by it. I just simply wanted to voice my frustration with the mgp I got while towing a light load.

Re: Extremely Disappointed!!

I want to smack you dude. You're complaining because you got 18mpg.....??? and then 11mpg while towing??? This ain't no Nissan Versa. And like the difference between 11mpg and 15mpg is going to make a huge difference anyways. Maybe $60 on a 900 mile. Big whoop. Next time research a purchase before you buy a V8 truck.

And now you're going to sell the truck to buy another Chevy to save money......?? Lmao...The amount you lose on the sale added to the amount the Chevy dealership is going to rip you off could probably buy you 200 tanks of gas in the Titan.
