I can definitely tell you that stock trucks/cars from the factory run so rich that an intake will not lean it out that much.
Where do you get your info?
They run rich for max power under WOT, but other then that they're not rich at all...They also have the ability to compensate and run richer or leaner as needed.

I was just going to let it go... but yeah.. O2 sensors and air flow meters???

It will not change your A/F ratio at all. All an intake does is allow the air to flow smoother and easier because its not going thru an accordian hose. The truck still gets the same amount of air...just easier. Its like a smoker and non-smoker trying to run a marathon... AEM is by far the best intake manufacturer out there. I have 10+ years in the import aftermarket and no intake can touch AEM for quality or performance. It has a CARB EO number (so does K&N and a few others). This means it has a California Air Research Board Exemption Order #...(The companies that take the effort to do this are 99% of the time the more reputable ones because they have to spend the money to do it every model year, so if they make it for the 06, and the 07 comes out but the intake didn't change...they still have to spend the $ to test and recertify for the 07). The CARB EO# certifies that it does not affect any sensors (mass air flow) from a emissions or reliability stand point and by having this EO#, the dealership CANNOT void your warranty as the CARB has certified it not to affect engine reliability. If you ever had an issue like that you would call SEMA and let them ***** out your dealership until they pull their heads out of their asses.
Sorry if that sounded like a rant...just trying to inform
Bottom Line: Adding an intake is one of the few (maybe the only) modification you can do that has absolutely no downside...except for the noise if you don't like the sound of pure power!

I may be a litle biased, but I think my S&B is pretty damn good. IMO all of the top brands (AEM, S&B, Volant, Injen, Nismo) are all pretty much equal. Sorry if I left any out.

Maybe I am biased too, but the AEM's always produce well in the power department, come with detailed instructions, everything that you need to install (including a new motor mount on a honda civics with a swapped motors), and the build quality is second to none. I have installed, driven, ridden in, etc...many different vehicles with many different intakes and the AEM's my favorite. Any Intake manufacturer that also produces Stand Alone computers as one of the few products they make knows their sh%t!

A Honda Civic and Nissan Titan are totally different vehicles in a different class. What may work well with the civic may not do so great with the Titan and vice versa.

His point was that they do their homework and produce a quality kit with good install instructions and it fits perfectly without dealing with any bull****.

Yep....AEM was a good choice for me. No oil, 1.5 MPG better towing my MaxLite 31 foot 5th wheel and the tranny doesn't hunt as much in cruise with the extra bit of torque. The noise can be loud at full throttle.

I guess I should have explained a little better, but my concern is that with with adding the after market intake, the mixture would run to lean and cause piston burn over time. That's something I definately don't want. If that's a possibility, i would rather use a K&N drop in filter and be done with it.
Any thoughts?
Mcgruff
Long story short: piston burn is not going to happen. Interesting theory, though.

Thanks for the info. I heard this from a friend of mine who is a pretty good gear head and seems to know alot about after market mods. I haven't commited to the intake yet but am still considering it. My buddy also mentioned an Injen intake but is way to expensive compared to the AEM. How will exaust affect (help or hurt) towing with a new intake installed. My hole idea is to help with towing my TT. 26" Terry, 7500lbs max when loaded. I should mention that I tow in the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.

The intake and exhaust will help your engine breathe easier. It will help in your hp and most likely will not hurt your torque in any part of the powerband that you would miss it. Remember, horsepower is a function of torque and just because the parts are marketed under the premise of giving you more hp does not mean that the torque will necessarily suffer.
You WILL have noticeably more noise, however; this is not avoidable. Some people see the hum from the intake and the blare of the exhaust as music, some see it as noise. It's all personal preference.
