Passenger tires and towing

Brand new 2008.5 Titan SE CC Standard Bed w/Tow Package. P rated 18" tires (passenger tires correct???). On my last tow vehicle (Dodge van) I replaced the passenger tires with light truck tires (LT). Will tow a 25' Airstream (7300lbs GVWR most likely I'm at 6000lbs). Have Prodigy brake control and Reese WD/sway control. If you all suggest new tires would a dealer take trade on tires w/ 300 miles???

Re: Passenger tires and towing

I can tell you what most people here have done.

The factory "P" rated tires have enough capacity for the Titan and towing, BUT a set of LT tires have stiffer sidewalls which are better for towing. Most people here wear out the factory units, and replace them with LT tires.
Make sure your factory tires are air up before towing.
Tow with the factory skins, you might find they'll be fine until they're burned up...

Re: Passenger tires and towing

Thanks AGAIN Lou. Thats exactly what I did with previous TV. Guess I'll try it again and see how the first trip goes. Air em up and anti-sway should help.

Re: Passenger tires and towing

I had "P" tires on mine also, towed about 3000 miles. No problems. I put "P" tires on again, for the treadwear, smooth, quite ride. If My tt was any heavier I would have put on Lt tires.

Re: Passenger tires and towing

When the winds are a blowing and the trucks are passing, those LT's will pay for themselves with lower shorts cleaning bills...
