so just put it to 4 instead of D when im towing 5k lbs trailer? thats considered turning off OD?

Yup...That's it. There is no "OD" switch, just the shift lever posistion...

Mine is an '06. I went ahead and changed the final gear oil. Despite the low mileage since the last change, the oil had more fine particles of metal and did not look as clear. I guess that is expected due to additional break-in of gears. I think it was a cheap insurance to change it. Used Mobil 1 as I always have.

You are correct. Our trucks don't have an "OD" switch. I mistakenly used that word because conceptually, I think of "D" as "top gear enabled". And top gear (5th) equals "OD" to me. Sorry about the confusion.

You`re lucky! I pulled a 25 ft. travel trailer through the Rocky Mountains and watched my tranny temp go right to the top.......but as soon as it hits that mark the tranny cooler kicks in and you can watch the gauge go down. It cools it off that fast!
