adding a receiver hitch

I need to add a hitch to my 06 crewcab se 2wd. What should look for and what should I stay away from. I wont be towing real heavy loads. Just a pop up camper and a medium sized trailer to help with clearing the 5 acres we just purchased. Thanks for your help guys.

That seems to be the general consensus around here.

Re: adding a receiver hitch

In regards to towing and adding a receiver hitch, I just bought a 2008 Titan LE. I don't have a factory tow hitch and there's no tranny temp gauge, however it does have the tow mode switch. So, with that being said, If I were to add the Nissan factory hitch (I think it's a Class III) and then added the weight distributing set up, would I be able to tow up to 9,200lb weight limit that's listed in the owner's manual? I won't be doing heavy towing that often, but in the event that I do need to I just wanted to know if it would be safe. Most of my towing is going to be either hauling a trailer with a CJ-5 or dragging a bass boat around. Thanks.

All Titan have the tow mode switch. You cannot change the tow rating even if you add the factory hitch. I believe your tow rating is still in the neighborhood of 7200lbs.

Re: adding a receiver hitch

Yea the higher tow rating comes from the gear ratio of trucks equipped with tow package, so it should be around 7200 still. I bought my hitch from a nissan dealer on ebay and it came with everything i needed for around 220.

Re: adding a receiver hitch

i got the hidden hitch brand from a place online called etrailer or something like that and really like it. i like it better than the factory ones because it is tucked up in further and doesn't have the whole hitch just hanging there in the open (just a personal preference). ut i got the hitch and wiring harness thing for just over $200 shipped. actually i just checked Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924 (where i got mine from) and they have the hidden hitch for $143 and the harness for $44 and free shipping with over $150 so you could get the whole setup for just under $200 from them.
