500 mile break in?

Just picked up a 2005 SE KC BT OR with 18K miles on it. I have no way of knowing if the 500 mile tow break in was done. Do I need to do as the manual says and do the less than 50mph for 500 miles for the break in? Or is the 18K good for break in?

Thanks in advance,

Goose

Re: 500 mile break in?

:sarcasm: I think you should drive 500 MORE miles under 50mph to break it in. :/sarcasm:

Re: 500 mile break in?

The 500 miles (while towing) break in is supposed to be done above and beyond the normal 1200 mile engine break in. It is to help the gears in the read seat better under load were they will mesh deeper. I really didn't get to do it, because my first tow was 280 miles of interstate towing. No problems in 4 years of towing.

Re: 500 mile break in?

I think you should just wait until you get about 25K on it just to be sure that it's broke in real good.

Re: 500 mile break in?

Or you could go trade it in for an 08.5 and do the break in then....
