I feel the need to brag a little because of what I have been towing to the beach. (About 250 miles) It has been a while since I posted on this site or even been back on it, but anyhow...I originally bought my 05 with intentions of getting a camper. Well last year (3 years later)I finally decided to buy a camper. It is a 35 ft travel trailer with 2 slide outs. Weight is about 8000 lbs.
The catch is, I also have an 1100 lb golf cart that I put in the bed of the truck!! I have some pix that I am going to post as soon as I can find them. I think they need to be put up just to show how much work the Titan can do. And FYI, the truck rides the same with the golf cart in the bed even if the camper is not back there. It is a little light in the front but not too bad, I roll up and down the interstate to the beach and back with no worries. Hope this answers any questions....Can I pull this? Can I pull that? I bet it can!!
Please post the pics because I have to see this. You are stating you roughly exceeded the max rated payload by almost over 1,000lbs and it doesn't sag much? Funny, my travel trailer is 7500lbs loaded for a week of camping and you can certainly tell the truck is loaded without the weight distribution bars set. With the bars set the truck rides level. That is with no where near what a golfcart weighs in the bed. My tongue weight is around 900lbs.
That's all good to hear, but tell me you're concerned by how much you overload your truck...

I think the theme you'll see this thread develop is that of people calling you a "dumbass". These are the people that think things like "just because I can doesn't mean I should". If you are overloading your vehicles GWVR and you can not safely stop your vehicle in an emergency situation and put yourself and your family at risk, who cares if you brought the golf cart and TT, your family is dead.
... and that is the point everyone will try to make to you.
I must be missing something....How am I overloading the truck?
There is this little thing called tongue weight on a travel trailer. It is the weight the trailer puts on your hitch. I'm guessing your 8,000lb TT is a dry weight number meaning that the actual number is closer to 9,000lbs. Proper loading of a TT should be 12-15% of the trailer weight on the tongue. At 10% with just an 8,000lb TT, you have used up 800lbs of payload. You then add in an 1100lb golf cart. That is 1,900lbs. Now add in any passengers, firewood, and so on and add that to your payload as well. You are well over 2,000lbs. If you have a crew cab your rated payload is roughly 1,400lbs. If it is a king cab you are still some 3-400lbs over loaded. Note my numbers are low for tongue weight and I am assuming 0-1 passengers with you. Being a 1-200lbs over after loading is one thing, but you are waaaaaaaaaaaay over. I hope you have a good brake controller and very good sway control as you will need it.
I think you have another make of truck - at least i hope you do. You are putting many other people (besides yourself) at risk. The Titan can not "handle" the load you are talking about properly, unless you have done extensive, expensive modifications. You should have a 3/4 or 1 ton ffrom the big three!

How can you not see that you are?
I'm not going to give you the old "Doomsday" speech about killing your family and others...I don't believe that's a real issue....BUT you are killing your truck...You really can't add up the weight numbers and check them against what the truck is rated for?

I guess I need to clarify somethings a little, first of all I have added a set of overload springs that have increased my load capacity in the back. Secondly, the camper is dry when I pull it and it weighs 7400 lbs dry but I add about 500 lbs worth of bikes, clothes and other camping stuff. Third I am using a reese dual cam anti sway hitch, and I have had to slam on the brakes and not even the slightest bit of sway from the camper. I am using a Prodigy brake controller as well. I know it sounds like a lot, but I can promise you it drives and stops fine. You can think what you want, and entitiled to say what you want. I know how it handles and drives so dont worry about me. Besides that, I just bought a new 2008 Titan CC LE yesterday.
