Weekly Towing a Large Load: Question

I am looking for a new P/U to tow my trailer and fishing boat. My trailer weighs rughly 6,500 (will be goosenecked), and my small fishing boat will be occasionally towed behind the trailer (weighs roughly 1,000 with trailer). This comes well within the advertised max. tow rating on a Crew Cab with Towing Package, even when the trailer is loaded, but it's been stated in many magazines that these new trucks might not be up to what they claim (I'm currently in a very old F-350 that's about to fall apart on me, but it can handle the load I throw at it).

I've read a lot about the dana44-based axles on the Titans, but most just seems to be speculation, so it's hard to base an opinion off of the opinions of people who don't tow this much on a regular basis (from what I read, the axle is very custom, and the people who do tow as much haven't reported problems, as long as they have the proper cooling fins on the differential).

Is it safe to assume that the truck will be able to handle the trailer and boat on a weekly basis? I will be travelling a lot and I don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a broken truck!

I got a 8500 pound travel trailer with a class IV hitch. plus I throw in TVS, bicycles, grills and other stuff on my truck and trailer with 6 people inside the King cab bench seatin. Never had any problems. I have an 06 SE King cab FFV. equilzer hitch and sway control. I don't have the big tow package but after market transmission fans available, but I don't have that either. Nothin wrong with my truck. been to arkansas, North Mississippi. Louisiana, south Mississippi. Never one single problem. got a 14 ft jon boat. of course I blew up tires cause I forget the thing back there. going too fast

Re: Weekly Towing a Large Load: Question

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm glad to hear that the Titan handles the weight you throw at it - I really don't want to get a super duty P/U, as this will also be my daily driver.

Re: Weekly Towing a Large Load: Question

Hello,
Those type of loads are well within the Titans ability...How much pin weight on the gooseneck? That's the only question mark. The new Titans can be had with a 2000 lb payload, so that may be what you need. The new Titans also have an upgraded axle, with bigger axles and bearings.
Remember whatever new truck you get, there is a break-in period for the rear end, this for all the manufactures.
