Towing equipment with a TITAN

Hello,

I currently have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with the Duramax Diesel. In the summer about once a month I haul my excavator which weighs 7500LBS on my equipment trailer which weighs 2000 lbs to work on a couple jobs. The question is. I am currently looking to unload my diesel due to the high fuel prices. I have found a great deal on a 2004 Titan CC with the offroad package. My question is will the titan be able to handle the combined weight of around 10000 lbs? I always use a brake controller and sway bars. I dont travel a great distance with it only about 35 miles. I live in NE Pennsylvania were there are a few hills so it is not all flat terrain. I know that it wont handle like my diesel, but will i be dissapointed?

in a short answer... no

its a half ton truck and not rated at more than 9500lbs max with properly equipt...

could it haul it... yeah but not leagally

crew cab is max of 9200lbs towing

It should haul it fine but the fuel mileage will be terrible when your towing. Also I don't see you saving much money on fuel going from a diesel 2500 to a Titan. Most people get about 13MPG on average and the best I ever got was 18mpg on the highway only.

The best MPG's that I got all winter long with my diesel was 11mpg's, and with the price of diesel here in PA $1.00 more than gas, I think that it is time to go. I was just wondering how it would tow. I just purchased a 3500HD dump today that I will use to do all my hauling. I just have to see the deal that the dealer is going to give me on my diesel for the 2004 Titan. Is there any issues that I should look for in this year of truck? Recalls ETC... Thanks

Keep the 2500. It should be getting better fuel mileage than the Titan's get without hauling anything, and I'd hate to see what it would go down to when you were hauling something that heavy. Not to mention, the Titan wasn't made to haul that much weight so I can't imagine it being very good for the truck.

04 was the first year, I would not buy it. They all have little issues to start with. It should also be pretty cheap if you decide to do it anyway. Resale is in the toilet over mileage and first year problems. I have an 05 and had an 06, my 08 is a major improvement. Try to buy as new as you can, 07 saw some major improvements.
