Mods to Safely Upgrade Towing Capacity?

I pull my new 2008 28' Keystone Hideout TT with my Titan with a Eaz-Lift 1400/14000 WD with a Robins Sway Bar without any problems. I haven't been travelling yet under any heavy wind conditions but so far no sway in the trailer and I haven't exceeded 60MPH when towing. My Truck pulls this with ease as if the trailer isn't there. I asked Greg (PRG) for any further recommendations and he recommended Air Bags but didn't have any but recommended part #59554. He also recommended Icon Shocks he would sell to me. In my opinion the Titan can pull quite a lot as long as you don't exceed the weight limitations. I would consider a smaller trailer then a 35 footer and I'm not an expert in pulling TT. Get the Air bags.

As long as you don't get wind or big trucks passing you, you will be okay with you current set-up. Just be ready for the upgrade to a Equal-I-Zer hitch

I have a 2004 W/Big Tow and pull a 27' Northwind Travel Trailer. The trailer is a heavy unit (the way Northwood builds them), but doesn't have a slide. Towing with water, the weight is 6500 lbs. I have weight distribution and 2 friction sway controls. I personally would be hesitant on going with any larger trailer, since travel includes both the mountains and interstate. I've been towing for 5 years, and would bet a 35 footer would sway like crazy (trucks and crosswinds). The longer length is more square footage for a crosswind to hit, thus creating the tail wagging the dog scenario. The truck's wheelbase, weight affects the stability of towing longer trailers. LT tires, airbags, and ect will help, but the truck is too light for a stable platform. Towing is not all about power, but a combination of a bunch of factors. My truck's curb weight is 5200lbs and a Dodge Ram 2500 is approx. 1000 lbs heavier.

Sounds like since your wife is fixated on a TT too long and heavy for your Titan you need to keep the Titan and buy your wife a 250. Otherwise look for a TT in the 6500-7000lb range for pulling with your Titan or a 250 to pull what will be a more comfortable(longer) TT.

These were great articles that I found helped me understand the logic/science behind it all.

The length of the trailer has nothing at all to do with whether it's a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton or anything else. It's a wheelbase issue. The longer the wheelbase, the longer the trailer you can tow.....but to a point of course. Someone here already posted the wheelbase chart I was going to give you. It's a good rule of thumb. Weight-wise, your truck will hadle it just fine. I tow a 32' TT easily with mine and have had no problems. I just upgraded to an 08 PRO-4X CC LWB so it should handle the length better still.
What happens is if your wheelbase is too short for the trailer length, you'll have less control over trailer sway because you don't have the leverage you would with a longer wheelbase vehicle.
So...will it handle it? yes. But in my experience, (and I've owned 2 TTs...the last was only a 26 footer), you'll be much happier and less white knuckled with a shorter TT. If you MUST have such a large TT, I'd have to say go for a larger truck....especially if you live in a hilly or windy part of the country. Good luck.

Yes, Big Tow is the tow package. Big Tow is the name Nissan advertises it by.

I'm actually trying to find out what my towing capacity is for my truck. I'm from Calgary, but bought down in Phoenix and drove back. I'm driving a 2008 Titan LE, LWB, crew cab with the tow package, now looking in my owners manual it say's it should be good for 8900 lbs, but I just looked at the sticker I got back from the RIV and it's saying 3269 KG (7200 Lbs)??????? So I looked at the sticker on the drivers door post and it say's 7200 lbs....?? Is that the curb weight or what I'm allowed to tow???? I'm also looking to buy a 5th wheel, but I need to nail down what the towing capacity is on this truck so I can match up something close. I read about 9500lbs earlier on in this thread, but I havn't seen that in the owners manual anywhere. I'll keep looking while I wait for a response, looked at a couple other threads, but the links to towing capacities were dead.

The 08 CC LE LWB is 8900 for the 4X4 and 9100 for the 4X2 according to Nissans brochure and web site.

A 5th wheel should be kept on the smaller side of the spectrum with a 1/2 ton truck. The payload for your truck is 1762 for the 4X2 and 1582 for the 4X4....again, taken from their 2008 brochure.

In retroispect I have seen our trucks towing 45ft parasail boats, but they weigh something like 4700lbs loaded.

The length is not really a problem per say, its just a matter of getting used to pulling it and having a feel for how it acts.

Personally if your considering that trailer you should get a truck to handle it. You dont have to buy a new rig, you can find good used 250/2500 and up trucks for great deals. My little bro's first rig was a F350 dually that he picked up for $18,000. it had fender damage on the passenger side but nothing was really wrong with the truck. it had something like 67K miles...He still has it and uses it for towing big loads around like tractors.

i also am in the same predicament. I have a 2008 CC/XE with no reciever but i do have the TOW/HAUL button. we want to pull a 28 ft. tow trailer GVW 7000 lbs. The Nissan owners maual towing chart shows 9400 lbs. towing cap. for a CC w/tow package and 6400 lbs. w/o. If i have a factory tow package installed dose anyone know what the tow rating will be even though I do not have the BIG TOW options?? Dose the XE come with tranny cooler etc...???

Well I will chime in here and say what I have.

1. good weight distributing hitch
2. good brake controller
3. Airbags by Airlift <-- ask around they ride better
4. DR rear shocks
5. Bilstein front shocks with 2" lift
6. Dual sway control
7. BridgeStone Dueler A/T REVO (very close to LT rating)

I tow a 29 foot travel trailer weighing approximately 8000 pounds fully loaded. See my weight slip below.

I have pulled in the wind, I have pulled in the mountains. I have been passed by big rigs and I have pased many big rigs.
sometimes I wish the trailer were a little smaller but overall my truck pulls just fine (even better then my Excursion). The best speed that I have found when pulling is between 63 to 67 mph.

My trailer is about the MAX I would want to pull with my truck.

2 things.
1. I have experience with big rigs
2. I understand what a trailer will and wont do.

Question: Have you driven with a TT before?

Advice:
1. First thought, Dont do it.
2. If you are going to do it ask the TT place to hook it up and let you take it for a spin. Really take it out and test it. This will give you a chance to know how it feels when hooked up. Be sure you take it up to speed at least 65MPH for a few miles.

You just answered your own question. 9400 LBS with the tow package (which you don't have) and 6400 w/o. All Titans have the tranny cooler. But you lack the towing packages gearing...that's really all that allows the higher tow rates. You could change the rear end gearing I guess.

but only the big tow has the gauge for the tranny temp. and also it will have the pull out mirrors. also i just bought a 06 and it has airbags already on it i was wondering do they come from the factory or are they all done aftermarket?
