Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

I have a 2005 Titan LE 4x4. Bought it used from a dealer so don't have original sticker. It has Nissan class IV receiver and 7 pin plug. No trans cooler indicator on dash. No trailer mirrors. Any other ways to identify if it has the tow differential? Maybe a number on a tag on the vehicle somewhere?

If you don't have the tow mirrors or the temp gauge then you probably don't have the tow package. Does your truck have the off road package?

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

No O/R package. When I've asked Nissan dealers (both parts & service) their only answer is "If it has the class IV receiver then it's got the tow package"

Then they are idiots!! The REAL tow package came with a lower gear ratio in the rear end! The mirrors could have been easily swapped, but the temp gauge isn't not so easy, nor the rear end gears!!

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

sounds like you got a non-BT that had a hitch and plug added... post a pic of the rear and we'll confirm it for ya... other than the nutz, does the hitch look like OEM or a "hidden hitch" aftermarket set-up???

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

A dealer tracked the VIN number and it doesn't show the tow package when built. So, the class IV was added sometime after. It's OEM NIssan reciever. What a bummer , I need the extra weight of the tow package. I guess a 2005 Titan 4x4 is about be for sale.

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

I think they all have the tranny cooler, but the gauge only comes with the Big Tow. I think the non-big tow is rated to around 7500 lbs. vs. around 9000 lbs. for a 4x4 BT.

Btw, you should save about 15% in fuel cost in day to day driving w/o BT or Off Road' lower gearing.

Yes the gauge is the "tattletail"...You can dress up the truck with everything else to look like a BT, but no gauge=no BT.

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

Yup I had the same problem but i was looking at new trucks. Never trust the dealers because thier idiots. The kept looking at the rear of the truck and told me yeah its got the tow package. But if you have a truck from 2008 and older and no gauge on the dash or you dont have it. If you have a 2008.5 XE you might because they dont have the gauge or mirriors but do have the gears. All titans have trans coolers.

Re: Trying to fig'r if I have big tow package

Does the "tow" buttom in the center dash area indicate anything? or is it just standard issue?

I have an '04 with factory hitch. But I don't see a gauge anywhere. Does this mean I can only tow 5,000 pounds?

The Tow button is standard on all titans, the only other way your titan would be rated to tow the same as the BigTow package is if you have the offroad package that will also give you the tow gears
