I have a 2008 Titan Pro-4X without the towing package. I opted not to spend the $$ for the towing package because my truck already has the lower geared rear end, class lV hitch w/seven pin plug, electric trailer brake pre-wiring, heavy duty 710 CCA battery. The only things the actual tow package would add is the extendable towing mirrors (which I don't care for anyway), and the transmission temperature gauge that I don't really need. My question is this: Would my towing capacity be the same as if I had the actual towing package since I already have the most important towing "stuff", or is there something magical with the trans. temp gauge and the towing mirrors that take the towing capacity from 7300 to 9400 lbs? I am assuming that my truck has the higher towing capacity. Am I on track with my thinking? Thanks!!
The pro4x is esentially the old "off road" package which gives you the lower geared rear...
someone please confirm the OP's question... I'm in the same boat, though didn't get the tow package & utility bed package by not being careful enough to check before I bought the truck rather than by intent...oops. I would also like to make sure that the only real difference is the sticker rather than anything mechanical

I went to the nissan site and went to specs and options > capacities then under the column for pro-4x it looks like this
King Cab
Standard Bed
Maximum towing capacity (lbs.)
Without Tow Package
4x2 N/A
4x4 7,300
With Tow Package
4x2 N/A
4x4 9,300
Crew cab
Standard Bed
Maximum towing capacity (lbs.)
Without Tow Package
4x2 N/A
4x4 7,300
With Tow Package
4x2 N/A
4x4 9,300
not sure what the difference is, maybe the amount of leafs in the spring pack?
Similar question. according to Nissan the Tow Package includes..
Class IV receiver hitch
Additional 7-pin wiring harness plug
Trailer brake controller pre-wiring under instrument panel
Heavy-duty battery (710 CCA)
Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1)
Extendable tow mirrors (N/A on XE)
Increased tow capacity
Front tow hooks .
I have a CC Pro4X with everything but the extendable mirrors. I havent confirmed I have the trailer brake. Since the PRO4X comes with front hooks, and lower gears anyway, and my hitch is rated for up to 10k#, should I assume that mine has the "Big Tow" package? BTW I do have the trans temp gauge.
You will also be missing the different rear leaf spring from the tow package. They're not listed but they ARE different. Exactly how much they matter in towing capacity, I don't know. That's assuming you added the stronger battery, alternater, hitch and proper brake controller. You don't have any of the trailer pre-wiring though.

I double checked everything on my truck and bounced it off of the website and other than the mirrors and tranny temp gauge (which I understand is standard on the 2008.5), my truck has everything else that comes on the tow package. I am not sure about the springs. I can't find any info online about them and the tow package info on the Nissan website doesn't mention any difference. The website actually reads like they are the same. I will say that I just got rid of a 2007 GMC Sierra 5.3 before I got my Titan. My Titan will tow circles around that GMC. I have a 19ft. Triton bass boat attached to my truck 90% of the time and I hardly know it is back there. But if I decide to buy a battleship, I would like to have the extra towing capacity.

As for the rear suspensions, they're different for reasons stated in the post I linked. But if you were planning on upgrading your boat, saving a couple hundred bucks by not opting for the factory tow package wasn't a good idea. However, I don't see anything in the tow equipped truck that would justify a full 2000 LB more towing ability. You'll probably be just fine.
