Any do-it-yourself moving companies have large trailers?
I looked into U-haul but their biggest is a 6x12 and that is a hair too small (have a 5x10 storage unit packed to the ceiling). I'll end up donating some junk but I'm just seeing if anyone knows if Ryder, etc have a larger trailer.
On that note, with an 1800 lbs trailer stuffed full of ish, I know I need to drop it to 4th, but can I use my cruise control? Looking at about a 7-hour drive from Tucson to San Diego.
Thanks
Andrew

With that light a trailer...if you're not in the hills it wouldn't bother me to go in 5th or to use cruise control. Just watch your temp gauge is all. That's light for a BT or OR Titan to pull.

Thanks I'll check out Wally World this weekend. Noticed that the cheapest hitches were, surprisingly, at Home Depot though so I'll check them out. Looking at a 2" drop although that trailer looks MIGHTY low to the ground.

Re: Any do-it-yourself moving companies have large trailers?
Look up some local trailer places in your area to see if they rent trailers out. You can probable find a 16ft flatbed and get a flat rate for the weekend. There is a place here called C&S trailer world that sells and rents trailers.
I don't have big tow and pulled a homemade 16ft metal floor trailer with about 1000lbs on it. I used Drive most of the time but once I got into the hill country of central Texas I used 4th. I got around 13.5mpg on that trip. I had a huge metal box deer stand that mine as of been a sail.
I have an aftermarket receiver and I picked up an adapter for the lights from Oreilly's for $10.
Re: Any do-it-yourself moving companies have large trailers?
Chief auto parts/Pep Boys have the 4-7 pin adapters...Sounds like the trailer will weigh more like 2500 lbs when loaded. For non-Big tow. really get a feel for the torque converter locking and unlocking. You don't want to tow in 5th gear with the converter unlocked...if it does, downshift to 4th.
I'm sure you know to grab 3rd gear early on hills...

not sure if you've thought about this, but you also have your truck BED to load (in addition to the trailer)...so maybe the 6X12 will work for you? Unless you already took that into consideration.
and yes, 7-4pin adapters can be found at many places. U-Haul, Wally World, Autozone, Checker, Pep Boys, etc.

That's a good point, I had thought about it but not really counted it into my math. I have quite a bit of room in the bed although I can't stack it as high as I'd like (just ordered the Lazer-Lite).
Will look for the 7-4 pin adapter and if anything doesn't fit, I'll leave it at my fiancee's house. I know I'll be coming back enough that I'll have many chances to pick it up.

Re: Any do-it-yourself moving companies have large trailers?
Picked up the 7 to 4 pin connecter at Home Depot. Was like 7 bucks. Although it is like a 3 + 1 pin....
I'm not towing the Titan because this is why I got the truck, to move stuff. It would cost more to rent the truck, then more for the decreased gas mileage, and there's no guarantee I'll be able to listen to my ipod or cruise in style. I like driving the thing... and I'm looking forward to towing for the first time.
