air bags

Hey guys need a little advice, want to buy a set of air bags for the titan, but i am not sure if you can put them on a lifted truck? Can you? If you can are they that hard to put on yourself or should i pay someone? Thanks.

Re: air bags

I don't have a lifted Titan, but i believe i have read some post that you can depending on the amount of lift.

I just installed the Firestone ride rite kit with Level II onboard compressor. It was a snap. About 1 1/2 hrs to install the bags and about 3 hours for the compressor, but that is only cause I mounted my gauge and control in my dash and that took a little time to make it look better than factory. I have a post with pics that I put up less than a week ago.

Good Luck.

Re: air bags

Your not supposed to have less than 5, or 10 psi in them. I don't remember which, i usually run around 10. I have a level kit, and my truck sits pretty level. No one has ever noticed the bags, everyone thinks my truck sits level.

I installed the Firestone Air Bags and pretty happy overall. The installation was simple and smooth although the U-Bolt brackets are really too long. I had to cut one end on the passenger side when I installed my Icon rear shock because the bottom bolt wouldn't clear the bracket. Greg had recommended Icon replacement shocks and Air Bags for my particular needs. I didn't use any air controller and just drilled two holes in my trailer hitch receptable bracket for the two air valves. I use a small air compressor to inflate the valves. I first leveled my truck with the air bags when towing to around 25psi for a level look but found there was a little too much Sway at that pressure. I now run 15psi when towing my trailer. I sit at 39" front height and 38.5 rear for towing and keep between 5psi minimum to 10psi with my vehicle heights even at 39" when not towing. I'm looking at OEM SAW replacement for the front right now.

Re: air bags

I keep mine at around 15-20 psi. They are Firestone but not sure which ones. I have a 12in bulletproof kit with King Shocks and Atlas Leaf Springs in the back, the front stands a little higher than the back, kind of a prerunner look.

Re: air bags

I've got Air-Lift on mine, with 6" of lift. Works great, pretty easy to install (although you do have to drill your frame).
If you pump the bags up with no load, it will raise the back, but it's also a very harsh ride, so certainly not worth the "look".

Re: air bags

I have the 4x2 LE CC so the truck now sits a little high in the back. What is the best way to level the truck and still have the ability to tow a 8,000lb trailer? I want to add the air bags and maybe lift the front to level it out but, I've heard stories about a lot of squeeks and rattles from messing with the frontend.
