Thinking of towing my 63 C-10

SO my step father was nice enough to give me a 1963 C-10 Chevrolet pick-up for christmas. I just got the title work finished and the license is in my hand ready to go on the truck. Only problem, truck is in NC awaiting me to pick it up.

I could drive it down here but it gets about 4MPG and that is just crazyness...

I have a 06 Titan LE with a Hidden hitch and thats all I know. I purchased a Reese receiver with a 2" ball with a 1" shank that is rated at 6000lbs. but after looking at my hitch, I notice it only has 6 bolts holding it to the truck...and reading my manual I think I have 6000lbs of rated towing capacity, I dunno. I dont know jack about thw towing department other than the actual art of driving it. I know I have a "tow Mode" button on my dash and thats it...

The hitch is fine, but you might want to get a weight distributing hitch for that much weight. Plus your not going to get much better mileage towing with the titan expect like 9-10mpg. Also you need a trailer with brakes and a brake controller to safely stop that much weight. So get a weight distributing hitch, brake controller, and trailer with brakes on at least one axle, keep your tranny in 4th and watch the temp gauge if you have one. Other than that happy towing.

where at in tampa are you ? just weigh out your options...

1- drive the c10 down
-4mpg
-chance of breaking down (not sure its condition)
-probably not the best ride for 1000 miles or whatever it is

2- pull it with the titan
-10mpg
-better ride
-less chance of breaking down

But with the money you may save in gas, you will be spending it on a good tow trailer unless you got one. and Id like to see pics of it if you got em

Didnt realize I was gonna have to do that much to get it down here. Maybe I will just talk to my little bro to toss it on his F250 and bring it down. He towed it from WV to NC...

What size carb is on there? My 72 cutlass with a 455 and a 750 on top would get about 13mpg hwy. I'm sure you would do better than 4mpg.

Im not sure of the specs. on the engine, my step father built it and it has a rather rough idle and high compression. Trust me when I say it gets 4MPG...

Make a vacation out of it. Fly up and drive it back. Stop in Atlanta, sell it to me for $5500 and fly home with $2500 net out of the deal. That way, we all win. You get a nice road trip and some cash, and I get a badazz truck!

I am fortunate enough to have my own car hauler so you know what I would do. We take something in tow to save a little fuel all the time, and we all get to ride in the Titan together.

just checked uhaul's website (http://reservations.uhaul.com) and from Raleigh, NC to Tampa, FL is $498.00 for an auto transport trailer (all 4 wheels off the ground)

you just said NC....so I went with Raleigh....could be cheaper from where you are actually going.

you might be able to just use a tow dolly (front 2 wheels off the ground), but i'd suggest removing the driveshaft if you go this route. Tow dolly price was $248.00

Hickory NC is where the truck is located...

The reason im bringing it down here is because im thinking of selling it. I dunno if I want to sell it or fix it up a little more. Its runs just fine, looks great and is a real head turner. O nly thing its needs is 2 gaskets and a little rewiring and it will be puuuurfect.

After reading up on my truck, it only weighs about 4000lbs. so I should be fine with my normal brakes.
