Re: Deep Trans Pan now ready for pre order

For what? What's wrong with the pan you already have? The tranny doesn't overheat or hold too little fluid...what's the point?

Ok but if you're not overheating the tranny now, what are you trying to achieve? The stocker apparently, judging by what and where I tow, is more than adequate. Are people having problems I haven't heard about?

I plan on keeping my truck for a long time and for $200 it's cheap insurance. Fluid temp is the killer of a trans and I want to keep it cool!

Pulling long STEEP grades when the outside temp is 100 to 105 with a 8K trailer, makes me want one...

Re: Deep Trans Pan now ready for pre order

Well after towing in 95-100 temps and 90-95 temps the past two summers and not seeing the temp gage move much above what it does when I am not towing, I think I'll just do the transmission fluid changes as recommended and save $200.

If you are even close to over heating something is not right. If the grades you are pulling come close to overheating the stock pan, you will do the same with the new pan it will just take a little bit longer to get there. You need extra coolers to take advantage of the extra fluid.

Re: Deep Trans Pan now ready for pre order

"AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OXIDATION Automatic transmission fluid
can provide up to 100,000 miles of service before oxidation occurs under normal operating temperatures of about 170F. Above normal operating temperatures, the oxidation rate doubles (useful life of the fluid is cut in half) with each 20 degree increase in temperature. The approximate life expectancy at various temperatures is a follows:
Degrees F Miles
175 100,000
195 50,000
212 25,000
235 12,000
255 6,000
275 3,000
295 1,500
315 750
335 325
375 80
390 40
415 Less than 30 minutes
NOTE: THE ABOVE CHART IS BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT OIL TEMPERATURE REMAINS CONSTANT FOR THE MILES INDICATED. TEMPERATURES WHICH APPEAR FOR SHORT PERIODS, SUCH AS CLIMBING HILLS, ETC., WOULD NEED TO BE AVERAGED AGAINST NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES TO DETERMINE ACTUAL LIFE EXPECTANCY."

Re: Deep Trans Pan now ready for pre order

Oh ok...you WANT one...then spend the $$$ if it makes you feel better I guess. Or you could simply find a suitable synthetic fluid and not have to worry about it. I still see it as overkill but it's your dime.

There isn't anyother fluid Nissan will allow in the trans, unless you want to pay for a replacement.

Let me guess you and Smoke like sitting in front of the TV watching shows you don't like and complaining about it.. If you don't want one move along and have a nice day.. According to the fine folks at PML, who have only decided to build it based on feedback of Titan owners, they have more Pre-orders for the Titan pan in 2 days than anyother pre-order they have done.. So there is a bunch of us WASTING our money...

Re: Deep Trans Pan now ready for pre order

$200 is a good deal on the pan but add on J-matic fluid to replace when u drop the stock pan its a 300 dollar deal if i knew about j-matic before i bought my titan ,I would not have been a titan owner now.

Take it that way if you like, but that wasn't my intent. I thought maybe you had some good info about a larger tranny pan being of some real benefit. If so, I may have been interested in going in on maybe some sort group buy. I tow with my truck so I was interested only if it would help. Apparently, from the info I've gotten thus far, that there is no real benefit...that's all. You do what you like though. I never stated you were wasting anything. If it makes you feel better, go for it.
BTW, I don't get the connection to your TV watching analogy...lol.

So you would have bought a different truck because of the J-matic tranny fluid? C'mon!

If you would like one great... Call them up and pre-order.. If you don't want one, move along and read another thread.. Just like sitting in front of the TV and watching a show you know you hate and complaining about it while you have the remote in your hand...

If you want me to sell you on one, not my job.... Trust me I have a lot better places to spend $200, but like I said I plan on keeping the truck for a long time so keeping the trans happy is a priority...
