Adding a tow package to a titan

I am looking at an 06 titan that does not have a towing package. Is the factory tow package a different setup then an after market one? Do all titan's have a tranny cooler and will they all pull 9100lbs?

Only tow equipped Titans tow that much and yes...all Titans have the tranny cooler. Non tow equipped trucks only tow up to 7400 LBS. The difference is the gearing...although if you have the OR package, you have the lower gearing and can tow the higher weight.

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

Non BT Titans are rated for 7500lbs. The biggest thing to get the 9100lbs is the diff gears. Other than that the BT pkg. gives you the hitch, BT mirrors, and a tranny temp gauge. So basically if you want to tow that much you would need to do a gear swap and I would reccomend swapping to LT tires. As far as I know that's it but I could be missing something. As far as I know all Titans have a trans oil cooler. You can always get a Scan Gauge to get a trans temp gauge.

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

If you decide to upgrade your Titan to tow at all, get the factory hitch kit...it comes with all the relays needed to run the trailer lights, the factory hitch is great, even comes with the factory bolts to attach the hitch...
I believe the is a 7 pin harness back-taped to the rear bed wiring harness to access for the trailer wiring...The hitch kit may come with instructions for that...

PRG Performance Kit w/SAW's

Rear Bumpy-Bumps
35" General Red Letter Grabbers on Pro Comp 1028 Wana-be Bead lock wheels
3.73 Gears and TruTrac for Gription

I replaced the factory air in my tires with a Citrus scented air package...
Oh yeh....I replaced the screw that holds on the mirror with a trick black oxide one that nobody will see or care about...

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

what loufish said. i went third party on an aftermarket hitch setup, and while i really like the way it looks (pretty much all of it is hidden underneath the rear bumper) it has been a pain trying to figure out a decent way to mount the trailer light connector that i bought (it came with the appropriate relays)...so for now i only plug in the harness whenever i need to tow something. the rest of the time it dangles.

wish i would have bought the OEM hitch kit.

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

They (Nissan) should have incorporated the 7-pin harness into the bumper itself, where it's out of the way and not hanging off the side of the hitch like a big wart, just asking to be yanked off somehow.

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

I do not have big tow, but this is what I ended up doing....

1. Hitch...http://www.etrailer.com/pc-H~70530.h...cleid=20074651

2. Fuses/etc...http://www.etrailer.com/p-30608.htm

3. Ballmounts...picked up at a local store.

4. Transmission gauge...http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/show...nsmission+temp Instructions on where to add and mount the gauge.

I think everyone else already covered the rest. If you want the tow mirrors, one of the nissan parts sites have them. I am thinking of finding a wrecked BT titan for the mirrors. I don't tow anything super heavy(just my car) and don't need the gears(I'm not saying if I found a set at a really good price, I would pick up the gears and a tru-track and install them).

Hope this helps.

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

darkblueta,
that's the same harness and fuse set that i bought, but i cannot find a way to mount it to where it looks decent.
did you buy the long no-drill mounting thing that hose clamps onto your hitch?
any pictures of your install would give me some insight.

definately agree with you 54!

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

I got the Nissan factory hitch for $190.36 and had the tech put it on for me out back. I also bought the BT mirrors for $180 for the set (shipped). I'll be getting a trans temp gauge of some type here pretty soon, as I am taking my TH to Pismo 7/31 - 8/4. As far as the heavier duty battery, don't need it. I have not yet towed with my Titan but I will post back when I do and let you all know how it does.

That trailer weighs 2800 LBS? And the boat is 12k LBS? Did you fill them both with lead?

Re: Adding a tow package to a titan

yes, the trailer is 2800, (per the unlaided weight posted on the trailer registration. not sure the accuracey) the boat is roughtly 9000 + fuel. I'd like to put the set up on a scale just to see. he pulled it out last season with an f350

1986 26' Welcraft, twin 260 merc cruisers (chevy v8's) widest trailerable beam 9' or more maybe. it's when the made boats to last....
