Tongue weight

Saw a good example of not enough tongue weight this morning. 1/2 ton single cab short w/b Chevy towing a little 10ft. trailer loaded with 16ft. lumber (not something I wouldn't do). He was in the woods about a mile from the on ramp he got on from with the trailer wrapped around the truck. Not a real big load, just an impropper load. His wife was probably on the cell phone with him trying to rush him to get home & get that shed built so he can start dinner.

I think I can speak his talk. Seems like the guy wrapped the trailer (in the woods) one mile from the on ramp he took to the highway/interstate he was on. Eleven feet of lumber was behind the axles.

Coonass, or Coon-***, is an epithet used in reference to a person of Cajun ethnicity.

Although many Cajuns use the word in regard to themselves, other Cajuns view the term as an ethnic slur against the Cajun people, especially when used by non-Cajuns. Socioeconomic factors appear to influence how Cajuns are likely to view the term: working-class Cajuns tend to regard the word "coonass" as a badge of ethnic pride; whereas middle- and upper-class Cajuns are more likely to regard the term as insulting or degrading, even when used by fellow Cajuns in reference to themselves.[1] (In Sociolinguistics, this type of behavior is termed covert prestige.)

Despite an effort by Cajun activists to stamp out the term, it can be found on T-shirts, hats, and bumper stickers throughout Acadiana, the 22-parish Cajun homeland in south Louisiana.[1]

Re: Tongue weight

I went to school with a bunch of "coonasses". A very proud, fun bunch of guys for sure.

I was told by a coonass that the term arose from people from that region emerging from the woods or swamps with raccoons slung over their shoulder with the tail facing front.

I usually call the peeps I work with from LA coonass affectionately. They have never taken offense to it.
