Re: Tow Ratings?

i have a class b license and know all about wieght ratings and how to do it, alls im saying is people think these titans are tow trucks and i have to disagree . its a half ton pickup, bottom line, no matter how fast it is at the drag strip, it shouldnt have a 5th wheel, the suspention isnt strong enough, as most of you found out cause you had to buy airbags. pull that 5th wheel around without airbags and see how quick the springs wear out, not to mention that tiny woobbly rear frame section on these things. i love my titan for what it is, a capable HALF TON pickup thats quick and fun to drive, but not heavy duty.a 3/4 ton pickup[chevy ford, whatever] has a heavier duty transmission cooler than a half ton, stronger bigger brakes, stronger u joints, beefier axles and so on.im not saying these trucks are inferior. i remember when all you could tow with a half ton was 7500lbs[96chevy reg cab 4x2vortech350 and 4.10 rear end]these trucks today are definately more capable but there still not heavy duty. i just know from experience that its much easier to tow 8or 9k with something thats rated for 13or 14. makes for less headaches down the road wwn you dont have to be putting springs and airbags in a truck thats got 30k onit. if i had something that i needed a 5th wheel to tow it with, id skip the 36-38k price tag on the titan and buy a duramax with crank windows

Re: Tow Ratings?

I guess I will get a little defensive here black08. I added airbags but only by choice. It softens bumps with my fifth wheel. I added them on my 3/4 ton truck as well. When I hooked up to the fiver without airbags, the truck dropped down only 2 1/2 inches. It really leveled the truck but I did not like the aim of my headlights like that. Because I do not tow the camper much I did not want to re-aim my headlights so I added airbags to keep the truck sitting like it was without the camper. I did not have to add them because the truck handled the weight fine. I chose to add them because of personal preference. The truck was no where near bottoming out and there was really no concern but I rathered having them. As far as tow ratings, you need to check on this because a 3/4 ton gas chevrolet is NOT rated for 13 or 14k. Mine was rated for 10,400 lbs with that "heavier duty transmission cooler than a half ton, stronger bigger brakes, stronger u joints, beefier axles and so on." When I began shopping, earlier this year, for a new truck there had been no change in the tow ratings and I did not want a diesel. My Titan handles the camper better that my 2004 Chevrolet 2500hd every thought it could. The I find the braking is better, the take off is better and the 3/4 ton dropped down 4 1/2 inches when I attached the camper before the airbags. I am not sure about other year Titans but I know that the 2009 is capable of handling the tow ratings Nissan gave it!

Re: Tow Ratings?

maybee by 04 ratings.for 08 a 2500 chev is rated to tow up to 13500lbs with 4.10s and a 5th wheel and with the 6.0 liter and,why then, is the same 2500 with the duramax rated for up t0 18500 w a 5th wheel. the answer is becuase they both sit on the same chassis and suspention. obvoiusly the diesel has gobs more torque so itll pull better but thats not the emphasis here.the fact is that the 2500 chassis and susp. is built to handle more wiegt safely and reliably than any half ton. id hate to see what my springs and chassis looked like with a 5th wheel trailer that wieghed 16000lbs
