I recently bought my 04 titan from a used car lot. The salesman didn't know much about the truck other than the miles, color, etc...
After researching a bit and reading countless threads on this site I think I have the big tow but I'm not sure.
Is there a way to tell for sure? Sticker in the door? Specific gauges? anything?
I just ran into a screaming deal on a 29' travel trailer and am wondering if I need to do anything special to the truck to pull it, or if the stock will work.
The first give away will be the mirrors. If you have big tow, your mirrors will look like this:
Another feature will be the transmission temperature gauge:
If you have the Off Road Package, the gearing will be the same as the Big Tow package.

Thanks for the help guys! I have the mirrors and the gauge, the lights in the bed and all the other things listed.
Looks like I am going camping next weekend!
I would make sure you add, if someone has not done it already, the finned aluminum differential cover and change the diff fluid to what is required now Synthetic 75w-140.

A very good idea!...Even if you can't get your hands on a factory finned cover right now, I'd drain & refill the rear end oil...

I replaced the factory air in my tires with a Citrus scented air package...
Oh yeh....I replaced the screw that holds on the mirror with a trick black oxide one that nobody will see or care about...
For an '04 the trans temp guage is a sure sign that the truck has BT package, the mirrors and hitch can always be added. All titans have the tow mode button and aux. trans cooler.

Also, if you want to make certain you have the BT package, crawl underneath your truck and take a look at the rear differential. There should be a sticker placed on the bottom that will read what the gear ratio happens to be.
Big Tow ratio will be 3.357
Non Big Tow will be 2.94

Sorry I'm a noob, I am thinking I already have the finned diff cover - is this it?
And is there a way to check on the diff fluid without just replacing it?
yes that is the cover you want.
If you want to check the fluid level the plug on the finned part is where you check it from. The level should be close to that plug level.
I would change the fluid and start fresh...
Just pull the bottom plug, which has the magnet on it. You will see sludge on the plug, but hopefully no chunks of gears. Clean and Replace the plug and fill thru the top fill plug with @ 2.2 qt's of your favorite Synthetic 75w-140. It is that easy, and should be done every 30,000 miles if you tow per the manual. RTV on the threads of the plugs is recommended.
I do mine every year because it is so easy to change.
