I've been reading through the posts and getting more confused.
anyway.
I've got a 2008 xe which doesn't look to have a big tow package has a tow button but nothing else.
it's also i believe a entry model cause there is no electric dooors or windows or center console.
anyway down to my 2 questions.
How if at all do I increase it's pulling potential i know it's got 6500lbs standard but i've been look at 5th wheels and most of them are going above this. (I have read about people putting a transmission cooler onto it but wondering what else i would need to do. Change differentials seems expensive )
And my 2nd question how do I figure if the 5th wheel is not too heavy for the truck bed to take
If you are going to do a fifth wheel then the titan is not recomended. Especially with a non bigtow. Not to say it wont pull it. There are some guys here that do pull fifth wheels whith there titans.
The killer in the deal is the WEIGHT of the 5er, and the fact that your truck doesn't have the gearing to pull what even a very light 5er weighs. You can "fudge" some things and "increase" your payload capacity, but unless you're willing to swap gears you're still stuck with a lighter towing capacity.

Hmmm. I didn't see it in my friend's 04 XE. But, I only intimately know about my Titan.....so, that's why I asked. I know mine can pull stumps out the ground like they're on wheels, ahahahahahahahhaahaa!

You got the steel wheels? That drops the payload, I am told.

Not to be a downer, but as far as boosting towing capacity, you're out of luck. No matter what you do to the truck you're still limited to the manufacturer's max GCWR and it can't be boosted by adding springs, airbags, or changing gears. Doing any or all of these things will, however, make your truck handle the load it is rated for easier and safer.
I'd just hate for you to do something that attracted the attention of local motor carrier enforcement and got you a hefty ticket when you thought you were OK to pull it.
^^^ Listen to this guy. He speaks the truth. You can't legally increase the capacity.
