Re: Everyone is going to hate me

Over the past six months I drove from Seattle to Cleveland, Cleveland to Newport, and now Newport to Dayton. My average every trip with an auto transport and the wifes jetta with some stuff in it, cruise set, tow mode on, at 70 has been 11.8 at best...All stock truck. I need to do something better.

Re: Everyone is going to hate me

There are two factors to consider when comparing gas mileage when towing.

1. Speed - On a recent trip to Florida and back my mileage was 8 MPG at 75 MPH and 10 MPG at 65 MPH towing a 26 foot travel trailer. My last rig was a 2000 Toyota Tundra and a 19 foot travel trailer and my average MPG was 10.5.

2. Type of trailer towed. A car on a trailer has low wind resistance. A travel trailer has a large flat frontal area with very high wind resistance.

There is a horsepower calculator at David's RV Tips web site. The major factor in determining recommended horsepower is the frontal area of the trailer being towed.
