I picked up the U-haul car trailer to go get my car. I'm near Houston Tx and drove to the north side of Dallas. Set the cruise on 62-63mph and let it run. Picked up my car and drove to Ennis at 55-60mph and finally filled up. 388.7miles to 21.1 gallons = 18.4mpg. BTW, I've been towing in 5th gear and dropping gears as needed for steeper up/down grades. I keep an eye on my Transmission Temp gauge constantly to make sure it doesn't move any further north.
Drove the rest of the 226 miles at a speed of 55-60 mph and still have over 1/2 a tank. I haven't filled up the Titan yet since I've been driving around my Trans Am and having fun with the 16# of boost monster.

That's okay i guess. I drove from MS to San Antonio with a 18ft farm trailor, and my first tank lasted 367 miles. That's driving 75-80

Just did a trip from Az to SoCal with the Cab and bed fully loaded and got an average of 19.5 MPG doing between 75 and 80 most of the way.

I filled up at the 3/4 mark. Your mileage did pretty damn good. I'm not sure how much the trailer you had weighed, but that's pretty good.
When I towed my wifes car from Tucson to Kingman (some pretty big hills there), I averaged 12.7mpg and the car was completely full, so I felt that was good. I didn't weight the car/trailer, U-haul claims the trailer is 2k lbs and her car says 3200 but it was weighted down pretty good with all the crap we had packed in there.
The TA from Dallas down wasn't loaded up, but it weights 3500-ish with a 1/2 tank of gas and nothing else in it.

Your on the threshold of ''should not be towing in 5th'' so becareful. You don't wanna smoke your trany.
If I am going to go up an upgrade that I feel 5th wouldn't pull very well, I'll drop it to 4th. I keep it in 5th for flats and slight grades but not lugging the truck bad enough. I'm also constantly watching the autometer temp gauge to keep the temps down.
This is the only truck I know of that you can't tow in 5th according to their owners manual. That tells me that they are either 1. over cautious or 2. didn't build a very good tranny.
