problems while towing at incline

I have an 04 titan with a lift on 35s and I was towing around 6500lbs and on the freeway to el mirage my temp gauge kept going up and each time I would go up an incline it would shoot up and then when id go down it would go down but then I went up a hill and temp gauge never went back down, I put trans. coolers and a new radiator, thermostat but it still happens.... what should I do to fix problem and ideas?

Re: problems while towing at incline

You didn't state if you had the lower tow or off-road gears...Why do so many guys do that....

You also didn't state if you were towing in 5th or 4th gear...

Sounds like you were running the 14 freeway...or the 15.

Did the converter lock up, or were you in 4th with an unlocked converter?
Did you try to manually grab 3rd gear?

Most of the trans heat can come from the converter not locking up...and it's very common for the converter to unlock in 4th gear and run like that until the it finally downshifts and grabs 3rd gear...

I had the Tow gears and 35" tires towing a little less then you and the truck had issues locking the converter in 4th gear on inclines and grades...The truck was much happier in 3rd during those times...

Re: problems while towing at incline

I manually put in to 3rd and had same problem, I went back and fourth to see if that was the problem and no difference and then while the temp gauge was going up I put the heat on to try and lessen it but it shot out cold air it was odd, I had it on all the way on hot but it pushed cold air in the cabin.

Re: problems while towing at incline

Sorry, I just realized you meant coolant temp, not trans temp....
