Re: trailer brakes

Hey, I'm a new guy. I just traded my 2005 Xterra on a 2009 Titan SE CC. It's pretty much a no option basic truck but I really like it. I had the dealership add the full towing package, so I have everything except the lower gears and extendable mirrors. I will use it to tow a 2400lb racecar on a 1200lb trailer so the high gear is more than enough. I am about to add a Prodigy and I was curious where the best deals are. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it.

I'm from DC area too. What kind of race car? Have room to store another trailer/car for some spare cash? PM me if so.

I got my Prodigy on eBay...just look to pay about $80 or so.

Re: trailer brakes

Thanks for the reply. I'll be getting a prodigy shortly. I have a couple of Porsches. One is a 944 Cup racer ('83 944), and the other is a '71 914-6 that is mostly just a fun street car now. I wish I had room for an extra car! Mine lives on the street right now. I am looking into warehouse space though, and I'd be glad to talk about about splitting costs.

Re: trailer brakes

Hey guys Nice threading. I can always rely on the forums for insight and news and reviews. I have the Elec. Brake adapter tucked under the steering column. I had an aftermarket Class IV hitch installed with a 6 pole plug. I recently installed new brakes and a new 6 Pole on the trailer with new wiring. I intend to purchase a controller, more than likely the prodigy due to the rave reviews. So I have not put much time into the truck wiring itself. Going back to the existing Elec. Plug under the column and the aftermarket hitch and pole. Are the wires from the Elec. Plug installed by the Manu. ran to the rear of the truck? I guess I am asking where would I find the wires from the elec. Plug at the rear of the truck? So I can wire them into the 6 pole receiver on the hitch. The only wires ran to the 6 pole on the truck are splices from my tail lights. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

This guy has a controller and harnessfor sale, a good price for both shipped to your door.

Yes. There is a round 7-conductor plug back there, taped up behing the bumper on the drivers side.

OK so do you currently have some sort of connector on the truck, or no? Hoppy part #40955 plugs right in to the plug on that harness and provides both 7-pin RV and 4-pin flat connections, Wal-Mart carries it. Adapters are available from 7-pin to all different sorts of connections. And of course you will need the infamous tow relays, if you don't already have them (do a search on this topic).

Re: trailer brakes

OK, so it's only my second post, so cut the NG some slack!!

I have heard all of the great reviews on the Prodigy, so I bought one. The one I bought came with a specific plug for the Titan, so is this just a simple plug and play application?? Sorry for the obvious DA question, but I want this to be right!! Thanks guys!!

Yes if the plug is specifically for that controller, and for the Titan, it just plugs into the controller harness, under the dash near the e-brake.

I had the reciever and plug installed unwhittingly not being aware there was already a 7 plug wired. So, my wires were cut and the six pole plug was installed.
I found the wires by the bumper. no 7 pole. I'll get the 7 pole and swap out the 6 on the trailer... I have a winch that needs power
thanks for the help guys, Appreciate it...

Re: trailer brakes

Ok, time for another newbie question. I've read up a lot, but want some information on my specific model - 04 Titan XE KingCab 4x4 - non big-tow.

Just bought my Titan last week and picking up an empty 18' car trailer tonight - and towing my car this weekend. My truck has a drop hitch and 7-pin connector already.

I know I need a Ball Mount (2 5/16") and an electric brake controller. Does the EBC plug into the 7-pin harness? Just wanting to verify what I need to buy.

It connects to the brake controller harness under the dash, usually taped up above the e-brake pedal. Most controllers have a harness available that plugs in directly, easy 15 minute install.

Don't forget the relays!

I haven't looked for the harness under the dash yet.

As for the relays, that's the part I'm concerned about. I'm running short on time and don't think I have time to order whatever relays might be needed. Do these just snap right in and done?

The 1 dealership I called didn't know much about anything and referred me to somebody local that sold trailers...

Re: trailer brakes

If you already have the 7 pin connector and a hitch chances are you already have the relays.
