Look in the fuse box under the hood, passenger side, behind the battery, black plastic cover.

If you have relays where I have circled, you are good. Otherwise, go to the closest U-Haul and buy the relay kit. About $25.

Man, look at that fancy diagram - big thanks! I will check tonight!

Assuming I have the relays (or I get them if I don't), I just need to install my electric brake controller and I'm ready to go?

I didn't have the hitch but everything else minus the relays. Don't understand it but it was listed as having the tow package. U-haul will have your relays. I did install my relays and thought that installing those relays would provide 12VDC. do I need another relay for 12VDC at the hitch? Also after installing the relays I tested all the leads due to my 7-way connector being removed and all but the left turn blinker worked, minus the 12VDC. I spliced the tail light to make for short installation. Anyone know the correct fix for the left blinker not working on the factory installed wires? I'd like to not have to splice any wires.
What is involved in installing a 12VDC relay if necessary to get that at the 7-way? or would it be just as simple to run a new wire from another connection. I don't have any other pre-plugged relays at the relay box.

12v is only present when the truck is running, you might already know that.

Not sure what year your truck is, need to check for fuses at the BCM.

As already posted, 12v only with key on, and if that's not working then you could be missing the relay, or blown the fuse...
The BCM probably has the BCM harness TSB performed which adds a small sub-harness containing fuses for left/right and brake....Those fuses are under the lower dash right by the steering column

I know I need a Ball Mount (2 5/16") and an electric brake controller. Does the EBC plug into the 7-pin harness? Just wanting to verify what I need to buy.
The 04's XE's did not come with a factory tow harness. You may have a custom harness on your truck..

Thanks, I did not have the relays!

Picked up the trailer last night. I needed the 7-pin adaptor from Autozone and the relays under the hood for the running lights to work.

Since it was empty, I didn't worry about the electric brakes. I did get the Prodigy controller and will install that tonight.

It's an 18' Aluminum ATC Trailer that I will use to pull my 06 Mitsubishi Evolution to the track. Should be towing with it this weekend!

Re: trailer brakes

Just wired up my Prodigy controller last night. What a snap! Wuz stupid easy.

Ordered it off Amazon WITH Nissan factory hookup for around $115. Already had the wiring in the glovebox but didn't need Nissan's version because the Prodigy hookups had the Nissan plug on one end and the brake controller on the other. No splicing!

Im in an '05 CC LE so mounting options were a little tight (can't use center area). Chose to stick it just above the parking brake; figure that's about as out-of-the-way as it gets.

Drill, drill, click, click—done. 20 minutes tops only because I was thorough in reading the directions over and over.

Re: trailer brakes

Blevinger, if you're left handed that's a great spot to put the controller. I'm a righty so I mounted mine directly below the steering wheel using the same metal beam under the dashboard that you did.

Re: trailer brakes

i was wondering if any body can tell me if if the brown relay in the top left corner (in the image above. the one that does not have the red box drawn around it) has any thing to do with the trailer lights. i bought the two other relays and noticed i didnt have that one. i have not tested it yet with out it, do i need that realy for the trailer lights or not?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: trailer brakes

I have a leer top on my '04 CC 4X4 w/ big tow. I am thinking about hooking up camper top's third brake light and dome light to the truck side trailer wires. Any thoughts?

The Leer installer didn't already do that for you? Mine did. There are a couple of fuses that they added. As near as I can tell the power for the topper third brake light is coming through the brake light assembly (driver side) while the power for the dome light is a totally separate wire ran all the way from the battery.

If you take power off the trailer hookup then your dome light will only work when the ignition is on.

I have an 06 SE off road with the big tow and when installing my brake controller I hooked up the adapter to the factory pigtail with the key off. I hit the brake pedal with the wires while trying to route them and they sparked. I figured I blew a fuse. When I hooked up the brake controller it didn't work. When I checked the red wire from the pigtail it was dead. I looked in this thread and found the wiring diagram and was able to find the blown fuse. The diagram states it is a "fusable link" but what I found when trying to replace the blown fuse is that it is a "Dealer only part" $15.99 and had to order(of course!!) I guess what I am trying to say is I have power to my brake controler and it is wired up to the factory pigtail. When I push the manual lever to the left my brake controler red light comes on and I have power going to the 7pin connector at the bumper. I just want to share my experience to help other TITAN owners. I was frustrated not being able to find the correct fuse. By the way it is it he rear fuse box on the engines right(passenger side) look at the inside of the cover for the diagram. It is labeled "Electric brake controller" It really stinks to replace this fuse because it also runs the radiator fan and ignition switch. This fuse is three in one. I needed mine to pull my 3 horse goose nect trailer so I soldered it back together in a pinch( ordered a new one today) Hope this helps someone else!!!

Re: trailer brakes

Just wired a brake controller, Odyssey proportional unit. Spent a lot of time looking for the OE connector - located up above the E brake pedal, close to the dash - burried, white connector. 2008 Titan.
