Re: Towing a tent trailer

That's nothing as far as weight goes, even for a non BT Titan. Tow in automatic, and you can probably get away with towing in 5th with something that light. On any big steep hills you might need to drop the trans to 4th, but that's a pretty light trailer overall so even that might not be needed.

Re: Towing a tent trailer

I use tow mode with my Toy Hauler. When I tow my utility trailer I just go to 4th and ride. It is personal preference with a light trailer in my opinion. Tow Mode just raises your shift point to a higher rpm. Try both and see what works for you.

Re: Towing a tent trailer

I would leave it in 'D' w/o using the tow-mode if it were me. I could be wrong but I think I read in the Owner's Manual that Tow Mode is for 3,000-lbs or more and towing in 4th is for 5,000-lbs or more. But it's been awhile since I read through it so I'm not absolutely sure.

Re: Towing a tent trailer

Any adverse damage will be visible in your Transmission Temp Guage. If the Transmission starts heating up more than normal, just drop her out of 'D' and down into 4th. I seriously doubt you'll see that though.

Re: Towing a tent trailer

My tent trailer towed sooo sweet back there....Mine had a lot of tongue weight and the axle was mounted farther back then most...
I'd use the T/M but that was for around the city. Mine weighed almost 3000 lbs loaded but 5th gear was used all the time on flat ground...
