Trailer Brakes

At what weight level are trailer brakes required?

I am looking at towing a friends camper this weekend that weighs about 3000 lbs.

Re: Trailer Brakes

Does the trailer have brakes? I towed a pop up that came in at about that weight and it did have brakes. If it does have them, then they need to be used.

I was thinking I remembered that campers over about 2500 lbs all came with brakes. Im' going from memory, so take that with a grain of salt.

Re: Trailer Brakes

It has brakes only because my friend tows it with his Jeep Liberty.

I figured the Titan could handle it without trailer brakes.

Re: Trailer Brakes

IIRC, I think the owner's manual says for anything 3,000-lbs or more.

Depends on the laws of the state(s) that you will be towing it in.

Good call.

Seems they would be needed in WI since the trailer would be a little over 3000 lbs loaded up.

Thanks.
