Firestone Air Bag Compressor Installation Help

Hi all.
I've just purchased my second Titan and I want to put the Firestone compressor on the truck in conjunction with the Firestone air bags. I had the air bags on my other Titan - no problem installing them. But where are you folks installing the compressor? The engine compartment is out. No room there. I think that the air gauge and switch can be mounted in place of the drink holder at the bottom of the center dash, but how did you route the air lines? What did you hook the power too?
Any and ALL details would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

Re: Firestone Air Bag Compressor Installation Help

I put mine inside the enclosure of my AEM intake.

I mounted mine under the rear seat and wired it to he amp wires behind my seat. I mounted the controller under the dash below the steering wheel and this worked pretty well for me. Then I only had to put one hose through the firewall.

How big is that compressor? I will be doing these in the future and I was thinking behind the tailight on the other side from where my axle vent hose is. There seems to be a bit of room there, just would like to know if it might fit.

The compressor is too large to fit there. You will need more space.

Re: Firestone Air Bag Compressor Installation Help

Its rather simple to find and installation spot for an air compressor, but there are a few do's and donts. Its really just running the wires and lines that can be tedious and time consuming. I read one, or a few posts about installing it in the engine bay. I would recommend against that although its not always harmful. The reason is that if you use the compressor often, it heats up like anything else, and the engine bay is already hot. This poses a possibility of an over heated compressor and a shorter life span. Like i said, its not an absolute no-no, but there are safer spots. And if you invested in an Firestone on-board air compressor, its probably because you're going to use it often. Trucks that need helper springs, air bags or suspension help dont need a failure in the middle of work day.

I seen a post for under the seat, thats probably a better suggestion and its where i put mine. You can avoid air ducts from blowing on by turning the fans on and following the current. Again, heat (winter climate guys only) can be an enemy to electric motors.

Additionally, I would check out the specs in the Firestone manual, plus try reading the recent reviews also found at the same site
