Hi all!!! I recently purchased a 2005 Titan.......and it is BASIC....ZERO options.
I've been reading about the tow packages here on the forum, and I understand the major component of the "tow package" is the lower gear ratio in the rear end.
with most trucks the "tow mode" changes your shift points on the transmission.......is it the same with the Titan?????
i.e. Can I purchase the tow mode "relays" and gain that benefit???
I don't plan on doing any heavy hauling with it, just wondering if it might be beneficial when I decide to load this puppy up!!!!
The tow mode function on your switch is already in place. It works, as is, and yes it changes the shift points on the first three gears.
The relays control your lights for your trailer. You'll need them to make the trailer lights function. My suggestion is to get the OEM hitch. Looks as good or better than the aftermarket ones and it's a straight bolt up application. Takes about 10 minutes with a friend to help hold it while you wrench it. Get the relays from Uhaul. They're MUCH cheaper there than at the dealer. You'll need 3 of them, total.
I can't remember off the top of my head whether an '05 XE already has the harness to plug the OEM 7 pin plug into. If it does, it's tucked right up under and behind the bumper.

If he buys the OEM hitch kit (new), it will come with the relays and 7-pin harness for the trailer plug.

But did the XE models have the plug on the truck for the 7 pin that comes with the hitch to plug into?
And I couldn't remember if you had to buy the relays with the OEM hitch or not. Sometimes I really miss my memory.
Edit to add: Also related to my hit and miss memory, it seems that I recall the XE not having the plug up under the dash for a brake controller. If the XE doesn't have either of those plugs (one for the 7 pin and one for the controller) then he's going to have some wire splicing to do.

I have an extra set of relays, that have never been installed...
Long story involving a redlight, a Jeep, a new back bumper, and a new hitch.
Actually, that about sums up the whole story!
the smilies say it all
Titan 1 / Wrangler 0

I have an 06 XE with no options as well. I picked up an OEM hitch for it for $150. Bolted it up in 15 minutes by myself. The harness for the 7 pin connecter was there and it snapped right in place. Also, the harness for the electronic brake controller was taped up to the main harness just above the E brake cable.
You can get the relays at Checker/Schucks/Kragen (Depending on your location). or autozone or pepboys. The Relay #'s are R3223 (you will need 2 of these) and R802 ( you will need 1 of these). Both part #'s are for Borg Warner relays. R3223 are about 8 bucks each and the R802 is 25 bucks. They plug in to your fuse/ relay block under the hood on the passanger side.
My 06 was plug and play with everything, i think your 05 should be no different.
Just trying to save you a little money, but if you need the adapter for your trailer lights (from 7 blade out) Tractor Supply has them that are both 4-pin and 6-pin and they're only $14.99. I don't know if you had one yet, but it's a pretty good price for 2 in 1.

Shipping is my treat (assuming your not in Rio de Janeiro)
