Im going to be building this box (1/2in birch) and was wondering about sub reccomendations, I heard the pioneer at the store and it sounded really bad (like REALLY BAD, not could be boomier or tighter or anything but like rattle and hum bad) so I am thinking the earthquake SWS10, but I am worried about airspace, this box is only .407 cubic feet, the sws says it needs under .33 cubic feet. What are the opinions on that?

Would the SWS8 be a better option

I will be powering the sub with a memphis 5 channel amp, the sub channel is 300w 4 ohm RMS (1100w 1ohm stable).

Thanks

Sorry, I know this is an old post butt I just found it today, hell I only got my Titan a couple months ago. Anyway I have an 05 KC and just went to look at the seats. The drivers is powered yet it looks like it has more room than the passengers. I guess I will end up putting amps on one side and sub on the other if i cannot find a sub to fit the factory box (under teh center seat). Anyway just wanted to say thanks for trying this first and letting us know about it. I was suprised no one had tried. Hopefully Ill get an IDQ down there although the mounting depth is 5.25 for a 10. We'll see.\

THANX

I should also follow up on my question above, I ended up getting the Earthquake SWS-10 and building a birch box using the designs here as a guideline. I was able to get a little more space out of the box, I believe my total box volume was .58 or somethine before speaker displacement.

After I installed everything I noticed a horrible rattle under the seat. The throw of the sub was hitting the wires for the power/heated seat and rattling. What I did to fix this was flip the box upside down, cut 4 2"x2"x2" blocks to lift the box up into the seat a little. Now my sub is downfiring and there are no rattle.

The SWS-10 for the first few weeks I was disappointed in, it sounded very boomy, and didn't have an deep tones at all. A few weeks ago I started playing with the sub, to try to make it sound better, I noticed I had my sub gain set way to high (checked it with DMM) so I turned that down, I also played with some poly-fil, and lastly I adjusted the xover for the sub, and now it sounds very good. I am very pleased with the sws-10.

There is a formula to calculate the amount of poly fill to stuff. Without getting into the electro mechanical formulas, use of compressed poly fill effectively increases the box volume that the driver sees. I seem to remember 1 lb polyfill increases effective box volume by 1/2 cubic foot (not sure but will have to look that up as I don't seem to remember it.) This is no free ride however because it effectively increases the mass of the driver and more difficult to control, more ringing and distortion in performance applications. It is critical that using compressed polyfill in a very small enclosure that choosing a driver with the lowest mass (mmd) for the desired F3 you are going for. For those guys who like to crank on numbers, check out these two books

Re: 12" Sub under Drivers Seat and Sounds Great

Old post but not forgotton. Has anyone put an 8 down there? Or even 2 6.5's or 7's? I was thinking of getting the Image Dynamics ID8 v.3 D4 but I can't find them anymore in this size.

I swapped my earthquake (and was selling it for $100 on this forum w/box but found another home for it) for 2 Elemental 7"s much more responsive than the 10 but I think some low end might have been lost.

Re: 12" Sub under Drivers Seat and Sounds Great

I have 2 of the eD Eu-700's under the back seat of my KC titan now but I am thinking about taking this design and using it with thier new SQ10 which only needs .3cf of air space for a sealed design. Put one of these under each seat and it should work pretty well. Will let you guys know if I do this, I will probably have my Eu-700s up for sale if I do.

hey bighitter,

Are you going to build boxes to fit under the front seats? I'd be interested in this as well.

Re: 12" Sub under Drivers Seat and Sounds Great

I will probably get someone to build it for me as I am swamped right now and don't have the time to mess up a couple boxes while trying to get one to work. I have never been much of a wood worker, the electronics I can handle all day though. If I do I will post info.

I talked to ED about that last week, and they told me I was better off leaving teh 2 eu-700s in that box then putting the sq10 in it...

Two however might be cool

So you have 2 of the 700's under the seat? I have one of the original elegonics boxes housing my 2 700s.

Re: 12" Sub under Drivers Seat and Sounds Great

Hmmm maybe I could add 2 more of the 700s or the 7kwhatevers and move my 2 under the other seat. I have an orion HCCA 250G4 pushing my 2 700s at 400watts of 1 channel so I have another channel available.
