Unbelievable job SS. Beautiful install, Outstanding writeup, one of the best - if not the best post on all of TT. I have no intention of doing anything like this and I found myself reading the whole thing just because it was so well done. What can I say... Very, very impressive. Nicely done!!

How much was the road noise and outside sounds lowered?
Hmmmm, good question. I wouldn't say a whole lot, but it's hard to gauge since I've had it this way for a while now. I also didn't use any sound absorbtion mat, just the dampener. Others (I believe Bestatchess) have used the absorbtion type foams for this.
Question... When you had your dash off how much room was behind and above the AC controls? I am doing a custom ham install and I need about 1 inch behind to make the remote head fit.
Thanks!

Should be room, but it's just a guess, because I don't have the OE HU in there anymore. But when I did, there was room for a PIE amp and 4 channel LOC. You can easily pop off the bezel and see for yourself.

I will when I get my truck back from the shop... My raido (HAM) is just sitting in a box next to my computer. The antenna is installed 3/4" hole in the roof (OUCH) but it looks good.

How come you had to drille a hole? I'm not real familiar with HAM radios. Anything like a CB antenna?

I use an NMO mount and the ground plane is MUCH better if drilled. When the install is complete Ill post some pictures. The antenna looks like a modified cell phone but I get OK gain even though its small. I mostly use 2meters (140MHz-150MHz) and 70cm (440MHz) the lower frequancies are just noisy (yes I am saying CB is noisy). If you want to learn more would be glad to help you out.
If you want a great CB antenna the Wilson 1000 will do the trick and its mag mount. No need to drill a CB antenna!

Uh, what he said. Very, very impressive Sammy. I would LOVE to tear out my interior and do something like that. Thanks for all of the pics and details. You learn something new every day!! David.

wait you placed you mat on top of the stock plastic?? that makes it useless. the mat needs to couple to the metal to be of any use, and yeah the inside of the door makes more of a difference in our doors since the metal is so thin
AWESOME write up, every time I read it, im even more impressed that you spent all that time putting it together!!
I put RAAMAT on the plastic door panels (as well as the doors themselves and it did help witht he vibrations from my comps). The idea is mostly just to add weight which reduces vibration.
Sammy I just got around to reading your post. Those RLi's look sweet as hell in there I wish I could find a sub with 6 inch mounting depth in my KC
