Titan DC Sub Install

All,

Please see link below.

Pat's Titan

This is a friend's titan I did this weekend.

We are doing it in several phases due to funding issues.

Phase 0 was the deadening material (~200 sq ft of Bquiet)

This is phase I - Using the factory head unit with aftermarket amp and adding subs/amp underneath rear seat.

Phase II is swapping out the speakers. This should happen this summer. We are looking to do dual 5.25" mids in the front doors and 6.5" mids in the rear.

Phase III is on of the Eclipse DD head units with NAV and rear monitor. This should happen in the fall sometime.

All speakers are Image Dynamics.

Feedback is appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris

I want the Head unit your getting SOOO bad
but I can't afford 1800

ID's shoud be sweet! How much Matting did you lay down there?

Justintoxicated,

The deadening project took a solid weekend. In total there were ~180 sq ft of B-quiet used with about 5 cans of expanding foam.

All four doors were done 1st, then the interior dismantled and covered.

The wiring was done after the deadening material was already complete.

We did not have all of the wiring at the time of the deadening. It was a little more work this way, but not too bad.

The head unit purchase is still TBD, as we have time until this happens.

VERY NICE JOB!!!

maek sure you cover up the holes in the doors with mat/sheetmetal

or deadening the door will be a waste of time

you see sooo much more actual midbass performance and fidelity when you seal any holes up completely

and fyi you can fit a 8" mid in the door of the titan, so why go dual 5.25???

im interested why you chose that route and not a singel large midbass driver/small midrange--or dual 6.5" drivers???

just curious?

Smoketitan,

Thanks for the compliment and advice on the deadening material.

As far as midbass it is still up in the air as to what will go in there.

The 8" sounds attractive. But dual mids is sooo nice too.

I do not think that there is enought surface area to do dual 6.5" drivers in the doors.

I want to sound proof my titan when i install power windows and door locks (i have the kc xe). How much did all of the sound proof foil cost you? That is a massive amount. i was planning on doing just all of the doors. Whats the benefit of also doing the floor and ceiling? If you got the sound proof stuff cheap, send me a private message with where i can get the same. btw, can you hear the freeway noise or your muffler or a siren for that matter with the sound proof foil? I want my truck to be quiet on the inside, but not dead silent.

hipnotik,

To do all of the doors and floor/back wall and headliner there was ~180 sq ft used.

I would say you can use nearly 100 sq ft doing the doors inside and out.

The overall benefit is a much quieter vehicle that does not creak, rattle or have as much road noise as the factory setup.

The material that was used is B-quiet. We have bought it on Ebay, and it comes out to $1.25 sq ft with shipping. If you price compare to Dynamat, this is a much more cost effective solution.

We tried doing a bulk group buy and the seller did not want to budge on the price. We were goind to buy like 1000 ft to do 4 cars and he would budge on shipping or price.

There are many other products (documented here) that will accomplish similiar results near the same price point.

The impact of doing deadening material is just a quieter vehicle, not a silent one.

With the amount of window area in this truck you will never achieve dead silence.

Send me a PM if you have any questions.

I'm sure the Memphis 5-channel is better, but I just installed a PPI 800.5 ($275) to my stock head unit, 4 MBQ 216s, and a type R and it sounds fantastic for a budget system! All I need is an enclosure like that one now. The Igloo water cooler and duct tape 10" sub enclosure has to go soon.
