Where to Mount Amps in a KC?

Just curious on the location everyone is mounting their amps that have KCs. I was planning to make an Amp Rack and locate it behind the rear seat but today I realized that the seat is flush againt the wall in the KC. I assume there is some kinda space between the rear seat and the wall in the CC?

Only place that looks like i can mount an amp is under the front seats?

Where is a good place to locate the distribution block under the dash?

I currently have my amps under each of the front seats. I plan to mount them more permenantly in the future to the back wall. I believe plenty of KC folks have mounted to the back wall and had no problems. And yes the CC has more rear seat room for amps.

Well I looked at my seats and they are right up against the back wall there is 0 space in some spots and less than an inch in others. How exactly can you mount the amps to the backwall? It appears you would have to move the seats forward and in the KC there isn't that much space to begin with?

Am I missing something? I mean my seats are directly against the wall I can't even fit my hand behind them?

I have not performed the project yet myself, but I plan on removing the covering on the back wall down to the metal. Then dynomat the back and mount the amps directly to the wall and then fabricate a fiberglass cover to clean all of if up. Thats the plan at least. Anyone out there with a KC mount amps to the backwall? Lets hear about it...

I have my 2 amps mounted on the back wall of my KC. I'll take pics tomorrow with the seats down.

I'll say that after installing several amps in my Titan that under the seats is the way to go, if you want airflow and you want your amps to live.

my amp and cap are under the passenger front seat. i figured that would get better cooling than the tight spot behind the rear seats.

John C.

thats odd man?? as I always the best way for any amp to sit is vertical (north and south) for better radial heat transfer, rather than sitting under a seat

have you had a amp burn out or something on the back wall?

Smoke,
You are 100% correct, but I think he was more thinking he would get better cooling under the seat because on the backwall the amps are tucked up against the seat so there isnt much room for air circulation.

yea I think the amp would have less than 1/2 inch of space for cooling if any space it all, it may be right against the beack seat. There is hardly any space on the KC. I just hope I can get a look at those pics so I can see just how much space there really is.

Also for those of you whoinstalled them under the seats how many feet of power cable did you need?

big Tite, how much did you need to reach the back wall? or is your distribution block somepleace else?

I used a decent amount of cable since I did not want to run the power cable next to the radio antenna for fear of interference.

I ran mine over the engine (by the cowl) and through a pre-existing hole in the firewall next to the pedals. I then ran it behind the center dash (low to the floor behind the drink holders), and behind the carpet on the passenger side.

I pulled up the side plastic kick plates, and ran the RCA, power, and remote wires in that canyon, and covered them with the kick plate.

There are pre-existing carpet cutouts under the passenger seats, which I ran the wires through. I have enough extra wiring left to pull the amp & cap out. That results in a bundle of wires below the seat, but they are hidden so it works out good.

As for the cooling issues, I can't forsee any problems. The cool air from the AC will drop, and some will flow from the feet AC ducts. This air will travel under the seat, and circulate. There is a good amount of space between the bottom of the seat and my amp, so I'm not too concerned.

thanks Aggie, So how many feet was needed? You msut be running a wingle 4 awg wire? I plan to run 0 awg and just need a foot espimate if you have one available. I can kinda measure with a tape measure but not really. I think I'm going to need to mount one amp under each seat since I will be using 2, unless I can stack them somehow.

Not sure if I need a cap or not but I don't think I should..I know the alternator on the Titan is pretty crappy..

Honestly, I have no idea. I just ran it, and cut off the extra.

I started with one of those $50 kits from Best Buy, and cut off a foot or so from each end since it was old (3-4 year old cable).

Sounds like you have an 05 with the power window, the power window takes up the 4" that are back there. You need an 04 to do the back wall thing.
