Navigation Integration

Ok guys,

Who here has upgraded a system that has the Navigation system and the Rockford Falsegate system. The reason I ask is I have a lot of equipment sitting around here and would like to upgrade my stereo system. But my truck has Navigation and the DVD Theater system. I dont want to loose the Nav system and would like to keep full use of it. I also would like to keep the DVD Theater system functional for the rear passengers.

So has anyone here tackeled the job of trying to integrate a full blown custom system in to all the factory toys?

Looking for a little wisdom.

Thanks guys.

I would like to see that also. I have RF + Nav + DVD + Nissan XM. I changed all the speakers & sub, yanked the RF amp & added two aftermarket amps using a Navone LOC and the Audio Control Matrix pre-amp.

You are using the factory head unit still, leaving all the rest of the system alone.

I was hoping to use my own head unit while still keeping the NAV and DVD. I would like to remove the Rocford Falsegate head unit, but due to the navigation system being integrated in to the face plate I can see it causing problems. All of the faceplates I have seen remove the Navigation features from them to accomodate an aftermarket audio system. I may have to leave all the factory items alone, and run my whole system independently from it.

When you added your own amps to the system, did you use a converter to go from the high level speaker outputs of your factory head unit to RCA's on your aftermarket amps? If so what did you use to down vert the signal? I have auxilliary inputs on my other head unit, so I could put the factory system in to it that way, but would need to find a really nice high level output to low level converter. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The speaker outs from the RF head unit (before they go to the RF amp) are way way low.

I am using the navone 4-channel LOC:

http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm

and then to the Audio Control Matrix:

http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/de...d=5249&l1=5249

which amps front/rear/AUX jack (front/rear goes from Matrix to amps; amplified AUX jack goes to RF head unit)

another possibility is the UI-4 from www.altomobile.com if they ever manage to get it produced:

http://www.altomobile.com/html/accessories.html

I'm not seeing any way to ditch the RF head unit & maintain integration with NAV & DVD. Mine is now pretty livable, since I never listen to AM or FM. Probably one of the new MP3 players with built-in FM tuner plugged into the AUX jack would be better than my RF head unit's FM reception.

Be sure to post if you figure something out.

Intresting, my RF headunit is actually one of the best FM recievers I have had. I am going to upgrade my speakers and amp but WILL keep the headunit. Thats nothing a line booster cant fix!!
