My Titan should soon arrive at the dealer (why does nobody have copper in stock?). My budget will be tight. In lieu of an external amp, LOC, and new 4 ohm speakers for the rear, could I accomplish almost as much just be replacing the rears with these and otherwise leaving the RF system alone (I don't listen at loud volumes or like lots of bass)? They are regularly $150 a pair, but are on sale cheaper. Will they fit depth-wise?

They will fit, but they will sound like crap. The stock HU only pushed about 6-10 watts per channel (this is being generous). If you don't like that much bass or listen to them loud, I would just add a set of tweeters in the dash and call it a day. The stock system is bad, but for your criteria, a decent set of tweeters would suffice. Given the power from the HU, the stock speakers will outperform the Infinities.
Kerswell . . . Great color choice! I've gotten many compliments on it over the months.
To improve my RF, I replaced the front door speakers with Polk db690 6x9's. The front speakers are an easy install. The rears are more complex - you'll need to come up with some sort of surround that moves the speakers inboard, away from the door frame and window (when in the down position). This surround is part of the rear door OEM speaker. In front it's a seperate piece. There are posts here on how to make them from particle board by bestatchess and others.
My db690's are 4 ohm speakers, the OEM's are 2 ohm. It made no difference. They sound great and integrated perfectly with the RF system. They made a noticible improvement. Please remember that speaker impedance is a factor of signal frequency. Frequency supplied to a speaker is constantly changing. There were posts here months ago insisting 4 ohm speakers would sound horrible if added to the RF. I have found those oinions untrue for my application.
The other inexpensive upgrade you can do yourself is to add polyfill to the OEM sub box. About a year ago I posted detailed info on how to do this. The original post (not by me) was titled "$1.57 Fix" or something like it. Search on "polyfill" and you'll find it.
Best of luck with your truck!

Thanks much for the advice! I had no idea you could use 4 ohm speakers, and I'll look for the polyfill thread. I was somewhat worried that the rears wouldn't be that audible anyhow, but wasn't sure. As to copper, there are 7 different dealers within 35 miles of me. I regularly check the inventories and maybe 1 or 2 coppers will be available out of all 7 dealers!!! Tons of white, silver and smoke, with a smattering of blacks and reds. Of course, the copper ones never have what I want (KC SE, Trac pack or 4x4 but not Big Tow), so a local dealer added a copper LE KC 4x2 (I can't afford a LE 4x4) to his allotment. It should be here soon.

Thanks for the tip. New tweeters to replace the stock ones would be an inexpensive upgrade, right? Are the OEM ones a standard size (i.e., easy to match)?

It really doesn't matter as you can easily make a little mounting plate out of a piece of plastic.
you can use 4 ohm speakers but they will sound HORRIBLE. I don't beleive this for a second, the stock HU puts out very little power, not to mentiont he stock HU is not made for this and could damage it. Hell I hooked up both the stock speakers to 1 channel (Ran them in series to make tem 4 ohm) and they are just as loud as before although more clear and my HU is rated to be 13 watts per channel! I would not go hooking up a 80 watt 6x9 to a cd player that is only pushign about 6 watts per channel.
You might get sound out of using 4 ohm speakers but think about what your doing. You running a speaker made to be run at a consistant 50-80 watts and running it at about 3 watts. Because when you go from 2 to 4 ohm your going to lose about 1/2 the power.
I would NOT go this route. Your total wrong about impendance and frequency, yea it changes, but a 2 ohm singal will never be a 4 ohm signal! The only reason your speakers could likely sound better are because you have cut power to the tweeters or because of the MDF adapter. Save you rmoney man, there are no cheap upgrades for the Stock HU.

kerswell- I have a set of those exact speakers along with 6x9 plate adapters I was planning on posting up for sale very soon. I also have the rear single Infinity speakers. PM if you are interested. I have plenty of pics as well.

You and jburson have a pretty big difference of opinion here. I don't know enough to say who is right, though I suspect you speak for the majority. I started this thread on the assumption you had to either get an amp and LOC to drive 4 ohm speakers or get 2 ohm replacements. Jburson had good luck with 4 ohm ones, for whatever reason. I doubt I'll take the chance.

Thanks, I may well be interested if the Titan ever comes in and I actually make a deal on it (all dependent on how much I can get for my Ford).
The stock tweeters are a 3 1/2 junk speaker. The good news is that they are easy to replace. You just pop off the grills and pop out the speakers. I used a piece of metal strip to secure them and went the lazy way using the stock wiring. I am able to swivel them to enhance my sound staging and am happy with the overall sound. The 6x9's are just to low in the door to get the sound I was looking for.
Thanks to Nissan for at least giving us a good stealth mounting place for the tweeters.
Assuming I bought an external amp, would aftermarket 2 ohm speakers still be more desireable because they would eliminate the need for a line conditioner?
