How to make Tweeter Mounts for Stock Location?

What is the best way to mount the tweeters in the stock location? Can I use 3/4th inch MDF?

I don't have the flush mount hardware for my tweeters because the sterio shop that installed it in my last truck made them impossible to remove without breaking off the mount. All I have is the deeper holders that allow the tweeters to be angled but I have not figure out how to remove the snaps that hold the stock tweeter in place yet.

All you need to do is cut a square of metal or plastic and drill four corner holes for the clips and one center hole for the tweeter. I just traced the stock tweeter mount plate onto a piece of plastic. I used a little piece of clear plastic (plexiglass?) I found in the storm window/door isle at Home Depot. I used a door panel tool I bought at AutoZone to pull the clips. It looks similar to this:

I used plumber's backstrap to support the tweeter and it is mounted across two corners and angled towards the driver.

I took a peice of thin galvenized steel I had running around, traced the stock tweeter on it for the outside and clip holes. I then used a jig saw cutting pie cuts out to make the hole of the new tweeter...

There was a post some time back where the guy used the grill as a mount. He cut grill in the center and used the mounting cup as the support. if you seach on tweeter mount I will bet that you can find his pic's.

There's a thread of one using the plastic of an old cassette case. You don't need anything as thick as 3/4, I think about 1/8 should do the job. If you go to Radio Shack (or something like it) they sell sheets of 8x10 ABS plastic that are rigid but can be cut pretty easily.

I used cardboard. One of these days I'll rig something up that's more solid.

Baseballfanz got my link. The four plastic retainers just pull off. Once you get one off a little and get under the tweeter the whole thing can be pulled out fairly easily.

My plan B was cardboard, because it was what I had lying around. I didn't end up using it because my plan A worked (plumbers tape).

Ok I pulled the whole thing off I could not and can not remove the black push pops I don't see any possible way to remove them without breaking them...I had some cardboard so I made a temporary holder, however I found out one of my tweeters is dead so now I'm considering purchasing an entirely new component set.

BTW, they way the flush mounts are made that came with my tweets they sit up slightly too high and the grills cannot be placed back on using something only as thick as cardboard.....So I'm not sure what I am going to do...Maybe my next set will sit mroe flush?

All newer sets, the good ones at least, have multiple mounting options. Your new ones should be able to flush mount like my Polks and they fit no problem. About the black clips.....take a flat head screwdriver and pry up on one corner of the factory tweeter plate (be sure to place a rag between the plastic dash and the screwdriver). Once you work one of the corners up you should be able to, with a little convincing, be able to pull it out. I did both of mine and I don't remember having much trouble pulling out the junk.

I pried my black push pin boogers out with an e-clip tool. The end of it has 90degree pinchers on it. It was a pain, but they do pull out. My tweeters fit with no problem with the flush mounts and have plenty of clearance. Good luck.

well my flush mounts definately do NOT work. but I found out one of my tweets is blown and it's $100 for a set of the new version (only has 22kHz freq response instead of 30kHz) THey might mount up better the pair I have is just slightly too high to fluch mount them.... I htink I may buy some crazy High end fronts this time around, but my amp is only 75x2 or 300x1 for the fronts
