If you can wait until next month you can look into the Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 which is has so many features it's ridiculous...

The unit is $1700 as for installation that will depend on where you go!! Anyone whos pays for more then $1700 is getting ripped off.. The unit is selling on Ebay for $1450-$1600. When the unit first came out people where paying close to what you posted.. I'm speaking of the Eclipse, the Kenwood prices have not been released yet..

eclipse?

Well the Eclipse model looks great except is seems to be set up for Sirius Satellite only (I may be missing something) and I really prefer XM, mostly for the live traffic capability which is really useful in the Atlanta area.
So, if I decide to buy from the web somewhere, how do I go about finding someone to do the install? I would love to attempt this myself, but alas 2 kids, 4 cats, 4 dogs, 30+ chickens and 12 acres give me more chores than I can keep up with, so the luxury of doing this myself isn't an option right now.
I like the Rainbow speakers so am still looking into those.
Our DSL line has gone down, so I'm having to check the forums from a dial up (very antiquated!) so sorry for the slow response on the great replies!
I'll check back when I can get back online!

Take it to HiFi Buys in Hwy 9. They are great at all things car audio. They can set you up with the install of the HU, even if you bought it elsewhere, and the rest of the system. Plus they sell JL Audio at great prices, so you compliment with the speakers and sub or what ever.
